1. I knew this was fake just from the dialogue. Jaded writer that I be.
2. Not all viral marketing is a lie. "Viral" just means something gets released into the wild and depends on the public to spread it around. We're in pre-pro right now for a couple of spots we're shooting in Vancouver next month and I hope they both get a lot of play on YouTube and whatnot because they're really good, funny (and flippin' expensive) spots. But they aren't trying to fool anyone, either. I don't think a lot of people mind being fooled too much if the payoff is good. Unfortunately, most trickery usually ends with a "WTF?! I wasted my time for that?!"
That's a great find, Ryan, thanks for posting it. I'll have to start looking at that site. I've been complaining for decades about the constant noise that doesn't say anything, and some of the attempts at viral marketing are a great example of that. There are some that I can respect, that do what they set out to do flawlessly, but it's rare.
The funny part in this thread is all of the links people keep dropping about viral marketing videos...
Also, how the hell do you guys throw up once a DECADE? I never understood this. I usually throw up once a year from something- being sick, having a really bad headache, eating something rotten. But 8 years?! 10 years?! I've met some people who have NEVER thrown up their whole lives. To me, that's like saying "Oh, I've never sneezed. What's it like?" I don't go throwing up every day, but to me the law of averages says I'm going to throw up at least a little bit in the next 2-3 years.
