Hi everyone,
Just wanted to give you guys my [brief and] humble opinion on the film and how it LOOKED -- being that it was shot in HD.
I actually saw it at the Ziegfeld (NYC) and let me tell you right off the bat that it looked GREAT!
Briefly.
The movie:
I saw them both back to back with an intermission. I thought BOTH were great. From script to direction to the cinematography. Soderbergh has managed to make a film that FEELS different (which is good) and at the same time keeps you very much engaged. There's even a few smiles thrown in there to break the tension. Both Part ONE and Part TWO work very well, though I'm afraid that if you see only one it might not work at all [for you].
How it looked (shot on the RED ONE)
Well... Soderbergh directed it, was the DP and edited it. The guy has talent and ... bolas bien puestas
Like I said before, the film LOOKS GREAT (im sure you've seen the trailer - but on the big screen... stunning). The RED ONE shoots some very nice pictures -- specially the calm and lush landscape shots. There is no rush, Soderbergh seems to enjoy letting the camera take it all in and paint his picture. The ONLY issues that I saw (and i'm sure everyone knows about this) is that unlike film, LATITUDE is well... you know. I saw a couple of shots were the sun-dipped parts of the shot were almost completely blown out. But only in a few instances. Someone that is not LOOKING for these or is aware of such things on the film vs video issue will NOT notice.
GO SEE IT -- if you can, both films together.
My two cents.
