I Just Dont Understand.

Ok. The whole procedure of editing in 24p is driving me crazy.
I tried reading as much information as i could to understand but im left with information holes.
So if your willing to answer these newbie questions, i thank you in advanced.

-i understand that vegas 4.0 can edit in true 24p unlike premiere.
-i dont understand how this is done. do i just capture the footage in vegas, edit, export then im done? because when i export my 24p footgae looks fragmented and choppy.

-i understand the whole pulldown thing.
-what i dont understand is do i need to remove this every time i want to edit in 24p?

-finaly, for now, if i wanted to edit in 30i would i need to do it in vegas? or could i take it into premiere without any problems?

thats it for now. Thanks

Re: I Just Dont Understand.

60i can be done in Premiere, no problems.

Editing 24P in Vegas is pure simplicity. Go into the options and make sure "Allow 24P pulldown removal" is checked ON. Then open a new project, and use the DV 24P preset. Import a 24PN or 24PA file. When you put it on the timeline, it will automatically remove the pulldown for you and give you only the pure 24P frames.

(verify that it's working: get the clip properties. It should say "DV (removing 3:2 pulldown)" or "DV (removing 2:3:3:2 pulldown").

That's really all there is to it. When you're done, you can export that file as a DV file (which would be 60i, automatically inserting pulldown) or as a DV 24P file (which would again be 60i, but you can choose which pulldown scheme to implement, and you could then re-import that file into a 24P project and Vegas would know how to reverse the pulldown and remove it.)

Re: I Just Dont Understand.

Thanks Barry.
but where in the options do i find the "Allow 24P pulldown removal"
I cant seem tofind it.

Thanks again.

Re: I Just Dont Understand.

Hi Infokill

Goto OPTIONS then

PREFERENCES then on

GENERAL TAB make sure box is checked that says:

ALLOW PULLDOWN REMOVAL WHEN OPENING 24P DV

Check out the HELP INDEX in Vegas and type 24p for your many options!

Re: I Just Dont Understand.

Also, make sure that you are using the latest version of Vegas 4.0, it should be 4.0e. The first version of 4.0 did not have this option.

Re: I Just Dont Understand.

Ah, excellent point! Yes, 24P support was added in version 4.0b, so if you're using the original, it won't have that capability.

Great catch, Scharky!

The upgrade from 4.0 to 4.0C is free, but you're most likely going to need your serial number to get it out of demo mode. I don't know that for sure, but odds are you will.

Re: I Just Dont Understand.

I don't think I had to re-enter any serial numbers when I downloaded the upgrades. I'm not 100% sure of that, though . . . :-/

Re: I Just Dont Understand.

The upgrade was free so im all good now ;D.
so to export it i just choose which pull down i want inserted? i still dont fully understand the whole pulldown thing. or do i just export it as a regular ntsc dv?

Re: I Just Dont Understand.

If you want to be able to re-edit the footage as 24P, then you'd export as DV 24P (and insert pulldown of choice).

If you're done with the edit and want to make an NTSC master, then you'd choose either regular NTSC DV, or DV 24P (inserting 3:2 pulldown). Either should provide identical results.
