I just cant see it

Alright, this is probably an easy fix but my brain is so clouded from so much editing that i just cant see it. I just finished a project thats about 21 min. I croped to 16:9 on everything and rendered as 24p widescreen (2-3-3-2 Pulldown) and saved as an avi. It took about an hour. When i went to open the rendered file it was split at about the 19 min. mark as two seperate files. what am i doing wronge? Is this normal?

I'm thinking your hard drive is formatted with a FAT32 file system. Maximum file size under that system is 4GB, which is about 18-20 minutes of video – so that makes perfect sense.

Go to My Computer, right-click on your hard drive, and select "Properties." It will tell you the file system.

If you’re on WinXP, NT, or 2000, you should be able to convert your hard drive to NTFS, which will give you unlimited file size capability.

Thanks David, That does make sense. This is the longest thing ive done so ive never ran into this before. Ill give it a try.

Re: I just cant see it

Is this going to hurt any of my files or programs by doing this? I got to the screen where i type the convert code and got a little scared. Wont it take a long ass time?

Re: I just cant see it

You should be able to convert it without harming anything -- make sure you select that option -- though the BEST way of doing it is by completely reformating the drive (in which case you would lose everything, yes).

But, some basics of good computer practice, with editing in mind, too -- always do a comprehensive backup before you try something like this, and you should be backing up your files regularly anyway. Also, for video, you should definitely be keeping your media (clips, photos, sounds, music, etc.) on a separate drive from your software.
