In my experience I've found the speed of your video editing is much more dependant on the nle itself than the computer.
I'd recommend giving avid media composer a try before you spend dollars on extra processors etc. There is a 30 day trial for it.
I wanted to see how good avid would be on my mac as premiere takes forever to render (Well it feels that way) and how it's playback of Hd is and i was blown away. It was like I had a computer double the speed - hd played back in REAL realtime with effects and cc. Rendering was done faster than it takes for Adobe Media encoder to open on some pieces.
Be aware that avid is very different and drives you nuts the first few times you use it. After testing it on my system I'm now hooked. Of course the trial ended a few days after my christmas break so now I'm back to cutting on Premiere. As soon as a few more jobs come in I'm ditching Premiere for good and getting an avid setup.
To be honest it feels like I've gone from a Ferrari to a second hand Dihatsu now I'm using premiere again.
Just a thought
