I have a lot of troubles with Vegas

Hi guys,

I´m a chilean director and i have worked most with 16mm and with MiniDv (60i) 4 month ago I bought my DVX100A and since that moment ive being using it.

The problems started when i wanted to edit it with a software that support 24p. Ive tryed with premier, but i dont realy like the results, i like most the image obtained with Vegas, but i dont understand the software. I want to set the interfaze with a preview monitor, showing the clip i have selected, and another monitor, showing me the time line images. Also i want to use simple tools like "cut" and i cant find them

Please if somebody can help me, telling me how to use it or recommending me another editor ill be waiting.

no, there are no two monitor options in vegas. You can use the trimmer and main preview monitor the same way though. It does take some getting used to, I too came from a premiere background, but in the end, this workflow is much faster and much more precise than that of premiere.
 
i dont like premiere either, my favorite software is final cut, i think its perfect, but it is just for mac... i think premiere is not Professional (talking about results)

ive found some things .. the trimm stuff works for me, i think i can get used to it, and the secondary color correction for getting that effect keeping all black and white, all but one color... also the pan its easier to use that the one that cemes in premier, more like the final cut´s... wel if somebody has another trick or tip... its wellcome

Yes. If you mean what I think you mean. If you have 2 monitors (talking computer, not computer+production monitor*) and they are set to extend the desktop across the 2... Just undock whichever part of Vegas you want on the 2nd monitor and drag it over (the little dots on the left side of the section "frames" are what you drag them with). I usually drag the video preview from one monitor to the other to see how differently it looks on CRT and LCD monitors.

*But you can also watch the video result on a production monitor rather than just on the computer. You have to go through firewire for it, though. The help file should give instructions...better ones than I can give off the top of my head.

Yes vegas will use as many monitors you can throw at it. My setup is 3 monitors. 1 LCD, 1 Tube, and 1 TV.

Works great.
 
Guys, he’s talking about the onscreen preview windows. Vegas doesn’t have a separate source viewer. Premiere (and most other prosumer/pro apps) has one.
 
yea, that was my point jubal, thank u all... now with a couple moth trying... i like vegas a lkittle bit more.
 
That's funny because it took me forever to figure out how to splice by just hitting 's'. I thought there had to be a razor tool at least. It took me about 4-6 months to really get vegas downpat. I'm really happy with it though.
 
Speaking of the "s" key, I just have to tell you guys this. Four years ago when I was shopping for a NLE I tried Premiere 6 and the other low end NLE. Liked Premiere the most out of the four demos. But at the time I could not spend the money. So I went looking again and found Video Factory by Sonic Foundry, my first thought was "who are these guys" I really like their GUI - so make this long story longer ... I paid my money and was very happy.

The first clip I drop in the TL needed something (forget now) and I thought I need to split this thing, so I pressed the "s" key with thinking about.

Well thats my love story, Vegas has never been better than it is now and can only get better.

In the meantime, I'll just continuing rendering to a new track to get an uninterrupted event. :laugh:

Select the two parts you want spliced.

Press <CTRL><SHIFT> S for a TAPE SPLICE.

Press <CTRL> <SHIFT> <ALT> S for a GLUE SPLICE.

A tape splice can be undone, but leaves bits of tape all over your screen and everywhere else.

The glue splice has to be cut to be undone, and you often get glue all over your fingers which transfers to other parts you're editing, smudging them.

Oh, and this only works on the "Steenbeck" version of Vegas.
