I hate Vimeo

its just not as cool as youtube. Vimeo is too pretentious ivory tower like, people should put their video where it will get the most attention from the masses. thats just my opinion.

It's a different beast. I differ on it not being as cool as YT. I find it cooler and more mature.

//Although for music I find youtube the place to be. In fact I watch YT way more than vimeo. But, like I say, they are different beasts.

Not everyone is alwys looking for attention. Many of us post for other filmmakers to critique. So it's not always about hits, especially considering most of the youtube stuff that goes viral sucks. The masses are like sheep, and in many cases wouldn't understand the artistic side of things regardless of content. With that said, if you like youtube go for youtube. I very rarely use vimeo anymore as they have started accepting gay porn as "ART". And thats a fact. Not that im homophobic, but I feel that if Vimeo can justify this garbage as art, then their sites not for me or my kids.

Lolwut? It is infinitely "cooler" than YouTube. Vimeo caters to the content-makers, not the consumers. And it has better technology to boot.

vimeo has like all the really talented repped directors and production houses putting stuff up on in. haha. funny.

annoying orange is making $$$ though. low art for the massess. zzz

Wow. Welcome to the internet Maranfilms. You're going to find its full of stuff thats not for you and not for your kids.

BTW, to get 'gay-porn' on vimeo you would have to actually be looking for it in the first place, or you would have some history of looking at, or liking similar stuff. And then you actually have to press play on the video. In all my years using Vimeo I have never seen anything related to 'gay porn', but I do get a lot of videos relating to the channels that I subscribe to (like travel videos, go-pro action videos, videos made in Africa etc). If you are seeing a lot of 'gay porn' in vimeo then you need to check your settings and subscriptions to see what is causing it, and then filter it out.

I've never thought of YouTube as cool. It strikes me as a place filled with hatred and bile perpetrated by anonymous attention seeking idiots. I quite like the skateboarding dog videos though...

I guess.... if you don't like Vimeo, don't use it? haha... not sure where the debate goes from that point...

First off, were not talking about the "internet" As a whole. Were only talking about Vimeo. Second, I used to be fine with letting my kids search around vimeo and watch videos without really having to worry about them finding anything disturbing. But of course because you have never come accross anything like that on Vimeo, it doesn't exist. Apparently you missed the thread on here a few weeks ago about the "Gay porn" on Vimeo. I would say the majority found it disgusting, and in no way art. when you become a parent, it's probably not a good idea to even chance letting your kids on any site where you know there's pornagraphic material, especially on what use to be a reputable good site.

People tag videos with words that don't always relate to the content.

Whoa. Cool it.

I'm making the point that to find gay-porn on vimeo you would have to look for it. Same as the internet as a whole; there is a whole load of nasty stuff out there, but first you have to find it and then you have to actually click on it and press play.

The vast majority of users don't have a gay porn issue with vimeo, I can assure you! And if they do then this would probably be to do with something they have subscribed to, or something they have liked. Thats just the reality. I tried to be helpful by telling you that you can filter out stuff that you find offensive. I don't know why you found that so riling?

So I get it, you don't want your kids using vimeo; so don't let them. But that doesn't mean that adults cant use it and filter out the stuff they don't like, no?

But hey, for all I know, you may be the one making the videos, Therefore the quickness to disscredit my post and imply that if I didn't look up gay porn it wouldn't be suggested by the site. But then again, you may not. Either way, if ??? and when??? you become a parent, it's probably not a good idea to even chance letting your kids on any site where you know there's pornagraphic material, especially on what use to be a reputable good site.

I think I'd worry about children of adults who think childish posts like these are appropriate more than them accidentally seeing a penis on Vimeo.

When I want the bizarre, weird, informative and useful material I use youtube. To store material that I tell people is there, friends and clients, I use vimeo - and pay for it. I'm happy - and if vimeo turned into youtube, I'd stop using it and look for somewhere else. That simple.

maybe before gathering the torch and pitchfork crowd, and trying to burn all bridges to vimeo. there may be a better approach to the situation, maybe some of the vimeo plus members can request some kind of reporting system or email they can use to report offensive material, or request a change of current policy of approved videos. it does not have to change overnight, but at least give them a chance to think about the request and see if we can get a better response if multiple members reported the same request and/or video.
