I'm really sorry to have to post this again, I'm sure there are about 20 of these up already... but i am really confused.. I bought the DVX-100 a long time ago and did a few things but since i got my new computer i completely lost all the settings i need to capture and edit the Advanced pulldown.

I have been reading the posts and i am VERY confused.. others i have talked to have split opinions on what settings to use and how to capture it and edit it..

there was a site someone sent me either on here in a post, or a friends... it had screen shots and specific options and settings i need. does anyone have that site still?

If someone could please explain to me how to use my 24 frame footage to edit it the same in order to keep the quality. Specific settings and options would be great..

thanks

Mike

Hey Scott

Quick follow-up to this question. I am capturing 35mm film that's been telecined over to DVCam and Digibeta. Should I just follow the same process that is used for 24pa when capturing with my DVX100a?

Thanks

Film that has been telecined needs a reverse telecine (remove pulldown)
Film telecine is the same as 24p, not 24pa, so you need to use Cinema Tools and not the advanced pulldown removal.
24pa exists only in the world of video recording where it's expected to be converted back into 24 (23.98)
Film is transferred with the intention of getting the smoothest image when viewed as normal video

Scott,
It seems to me that the link you sent and also what I have read on kenstone.net is in contradiction with the sticky from Noah at the top of the FCP section. Am I just reading it wrong? This is in concern to the 23.98 capture or 29.97 using 24pa.
I could just be lame too......

Just use the presets for this.
The footage is 29.97 on tape so technically you're capturing it at 29.97 and removing pulldown on the fly so the end result is 23.98.
I think the sticky's main point is to not just set the capture setting to 23.98 and expect it to do the right thing since the capture should be 29.98 with 23.98 results.

Thanks. I have been using the settings like on your squire link above and shooting 24pa and it seems to be working fine. I am having an issue with a stretched image in DVD studio but I don't think it has anything to do with my capture settings..the saga continues...

No, I exported a 5 minute film to quicktime movie then onto DVD studio pro and when I burn it and watch it it looks horizontally stretched and is letterboxing on my 16:9 television.
I must have some setting wrong somewhere. Just going to play with it more....
Maybe I need to use compressor or a quicktime conversion?

You shoudl try compressor with the widescreen settings.

Also a note of warning. DVD studio doesn't obey 24fps QT movies according to their manual
