I hate my life....

All right, as I have mentioned before, I have been tirelessly working on my sister's wedding video. I would SOOOO like to be friggin' done with this chapter so I can move on with my pathetic life. Please GOD help me. Please DVXuser.com community, help me. If you know what it is like to be "stuck" on a chapter of an edit for weeks (mostly because I work on it when I can, after work, on weekends, sometimes avoid it, etc.) then you understand. I am BEGGING for some Premiere Pro 1.5 tutelage.

Initially, I was having problems with SteadyMove Pro. I still don't quite like the artifacts it causes when I render out a clip with it. It can be splotchy, for a lack of a better term. If you'd like an example, just ask. I am sick of troubleshooting it. So, it is what it is, and the artifacts stay. But, my MAIN problem now is getting this F'in chapter complete.

Now, I have a healthy number of dissolves. When I applied one effect in a clip and a different effect in the second clip this dissolve would contain a VERY noticeable flicker. It was maddening. I decided that it was the two different effects not playing nice with one another. Well, after troubleshooting for AGES, I decided to keep the cuts and edits in, as well as the dissolves but take out ALL of the color corrections. Period. My plan is/was to re-render, then re-color correct WITH the transitions already rendered in. Well, I did this but NOW, I am getting funky flickers. WHAT THE F??? The clip now looks like one long clip in the timeline, as I suspected it would, but, at certain points in the clip, during the point where the transition between two clips existed, it doesn't flicker, but it will begin to dissolve to the next clip and during this dissolve the previous clip will pop in for a brief millisecond. KILL ME. I am so ****ING sick of dealing with these little problems that I am beginning to swear with frustration. This is supposed to be fun. And, it IS fun. But what the F?????????

Please guide me. Tutorial me. Advise me. Become my Jedi Master I don't give a frig. Wax on, wax F'in off...you speak I will freaking listen. PLEASE HELP ME GET ON WITH MY LIFE AND THROUGH WITH THIS CHAPTER....

Apart from the flicker issue. DO the transitions work properly ?.

I suspect not, so what kind of transitions have you used ?

Run through how you set up the transition in the timeline (an example). Screen shot would be good.

Lets take it from there and see what happens next....

BTW - what sort of footage are the clips ? ( avi ?)

yes. the clips are AVI. And the clips DO work properly BEFORE I rendered them. So, I will post a clip in a few.....thanks for your input....

In the meantime

What is the project set up as ? Standard preset or Customised ?

Confirm that without effects on the clips ,the transitions play perfectly ?

What sort of transitions are they ?

rlm7189, to get rid of the flicker, this may do the trick:

1. In PPro, go to Project > Project Settings > Video Rendering
2. Uncheck Optimize Stills

This helps most of the time so it is worth trying! :)

EDIT:
Your sign says that you live in NY but i ask you anyway: Are the clips NTSC or PAL?

Averdahl-

I will definitely try your suggestion and let you know. The clips are NTSC. And, without the effects, the dissolves work perfectly. So, I am quite sure it is the effects (looks suite) not dealing with each other well. So, I will go and re-render. If this works Roger, I will owe you TONS of gratitude! (as well as many of the rest of you who have offered words of wisdom)

Okay-

I tried your suggestion Averdahl and alas, I still have the problem. During the dissolve transition from one clip to another, as it is almost complete, the previous clip's image will pop in there for a millisecond. What the F????

And, I was going to let the artifacts on the very first clip go. But I can't. They are just too ugly. I have applied SteadyMove Pro to this clip and for some reason it is insisting on causing some very ugly and noticeable splotches on certain parts of the footage (the bushes and grass in the background). The splotches come and go and pop in and out for a brief half a second but it is quite noticeable nonetheless.

This stuff is making me want to personally drive to the Adobe manufacturing place, walk into their offices and flip somebody off. I can't even troubleshoot this anymore. I'm tired. I'm tired of rendering, and re-rendering and spending the time to re-render again only to have it look like garbage. I take this stuff to sleep with me, wondering what the F.

I feel like I am in bed with Premiere Pro 1.5 and Premiere Pro 1.5 eats crackers.

Sorry to hear that... :undecided

How many effects do you have applyed to the video clips? Sometimes it makes a huge difference in how they are applyed: If you have effect A, B and C you can try to change the stacking order of them in the Effect Controls Window.

Thats why i never, ever use SteadyMove.

Instead of rendering out the whole movie, use the Work Area Bar and render out the transitions that have problems. Using the Work Area Bar is a huge timesaver when it comes to render out small parts of a movie. :)

Last Q: If you render out a part of the movie with no effects, no SteadyMove are the transitions as ugly without effects and/or SteadyMove? What transitions do you use?

/Roger

Well, the ONLY effects I have in the entire movie now is SteadyMove which is on the very first clip. I needed it. It was a very pretty shot that was poorly executed and I didn't have time to re-shoot. So, I wanted to steady the shot. But, I am close to just saying "F it" and leaving the handheld look in there.

As for all of the other effects, I took them out. Each and every one of them. I had some White Diffusion in there as well as Blue Grad. I took them out because the only transition effect that I used was DISSOLVE and in between the two clips, there was an 'impossible-to-miss' flicker, during the dissolves. My thought was, take out ALL of the effects, render the ENTIRE sequence as a movie, then re-apply the effects after the transitions (dissolves) have been rendered in there.

This is what is so confusing. I have NO effects. When I play the clip it looks fine. When I render it out it gives me fits. Like I have described. The previous clip will pop in for a brief second as the dissolve is working its way to the next clip. Up top, I posted a link to an example of this.

I appreciate your time Roger. I really do. I just hope I can solve this before I'm 80.

Aha, all transitions must have enough clip handles to work properly. When you see a brief second of a clip, a brief second that "should" not be there, during a transition it indicates that you do not have enough head or tail material in the clip/s.

Use PPro help (Press F1 in PPro) and read more about About clip handles and transitions for a more detailed description.

rlm7189.....trim some more frames off your edit points where you place the transition.....or....the clips you are joining with a transition....place a transition on each clip with a duration of 15 frames.....this will give you a 1 sec transition using 2 transitions.....15 frames on one clip....15 frames on the other.......use the dissolve on both.....

Glad its sorted ( and hopefully it is) but what puzzles me rlm7189 is that everytime I asked if the transition worked, you came back and said "perfectly".

If your system needs to render transitions ( non realtime fx) before you can see them playback, obviously they are not "perfect" if they do not work properly.

You could have been enjoying life again much sooner with a better analysis of the problem.
