Re: i dvd menus

I just asked this same question on the Apple Discussions board for iDVD. The person that responded didnt really answer my question. I wanted to put my own custom background (menu screen) other than the ones that you see in iDVD. He said I could do that by dragging my picture or movie file over to that window...That's cool and I have done that but I will still be utilizing the iDVD menu screen. I am guess we are going to have to get something like DVD Studio Pro to make custom screens since iDVD is more geared towards family home movie archiving.

Re: i dvd menus

What "idvd menu screens" are you referring to? You can make your own backgrounds (as you've mentioned) and create your own buttons/locations within idvd. Granted you don't have as much control as SP, but for simple dvd's, it's great. iDVD 4 really as added some strong features it didn't used to have.

Re: i dvd menus

im sorry i should have been a little more clear . when i said menus i was referring to the background pictures on the dvd menus [the movie projector, gen Y , sports ,western , passport, postcard, confetti, theater ,etc] ,i was wondering if there was a way to not use them

Re: i dvd menus

Sure there is... just create your own images or background movie files, and drag them into the window.. they'll replace the others. Easy as pie.

Re: i dvd menus

Now Kai,

When you say, drag your images or movies to the window and it will replace the others, I don't understand how that will change the entire look of the screen. For example, let's say I don't want that "Theater" look with the curtains opening up and revealing a video clip or picture in that window. How can I import an image OR use a solid color or texture to use as a full screen background then place the selection buttons on top of that.

I am not sure if this is what Lurch was referring to.

Re: i dvd menus

Yes, when you have a background file you've made, and you drag that file into the idvd window, it will replace the cheezy "theatre backgrounds", etc. with the file you've created. That becomes your new background clip. Then, you can customize your buttons as you feel fit using the idvd menus.

You can also create a still image in photoshop and drag that into the window if you'd like to use a still image for the background... Simple as pie.

Now if you want motion menus, scripting, etc... you'll want to check out Studio Pro. It's very deep and powerful, and if you won't want to get into the "deepness", it also has a simplified feature set that will be familiar to idvd users. It comes with some pretty cool templates as well... Hope that helps some...
