I don't have enough powah captain!

Here's my problem: going to the Amazon jungle in Ecuador to shoot for a couple weeks in June. While there I will be 3-6 days at a time in villages where there is no electricity and no vehicles (so, cigarette lighter adapters are out of the Q). What can I do?!? Are there solar battery chargers for DVX batts? Do I have to buy like 25 batteries (I know what Jarred's thinking...)?

Follow-up Q: Since I can't bring in much equipment (meaning, no lights), all I'll have is a yet-to-be-determined on-camera light. I'll have to find a way to charge this also.

Help!

Thanks all,
Ryan

Re: I don't have enough powah captain!

If it was me, I would bring along a small Honda generator (an EU1000 or EU2000) and 4 chargers. Alternatively, you could make arrangements to rent a generator in-country, but that would be somewhat riskier.

Bringing in 25 charged DVXuser Li-ion batteries is also a very workable option. You can sell off the excess batteries when you return at a small loss. If you build an on-camera led light, you can use the same batteries to power your light.

As far as the on camera light goes, I'd recommend looking into LED lights. The consume much less power and hence no need for big battery bricks.

Re: I don't have enough powah captain!

so what, are you going to these places in canoes and on donkeys?

I'd say your best bet is to split the difference. Get a bunch of batteries and also bring along the putt-putt genny. Hopefully you won't have to haul around so much fuel that way. Maybe look into getting a quick-charger, possibly one with at lesat 2 slots so you can charge multiple batteries at once. But I'm one of those people who really goes overboad most of the time when it comes to preparing for a job and bringing too much stuff I'll never use. I think you'll get some good advice on this board though.

Airplane to canoe. I've gotten good advice already! Keep it coming folks, I'll be dropping by B&H's warehouse (does EVS have a physical store?) in a week. Thanks!

So what everyone's saying is there is no solar, hand-cranked, or hydrophonic battery charging system... shoot. Jarred can you invent one? :)
