In regards to the new P2 camera….What is so hard with understanding the meaning of “NON-DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT?” It boggles my mind why so many people are pouring on tons of questions about the new DVCPRO HD/P2 camera when Jan has said, time and time again, that she can’t reveal anymore information! I can understand a question or two in the beginning, BEFORE Barry posted the known facts of the camera, but now it just looks ridiculous. By looking at the sheer number of post, you would think that this camera is out being used in the field! :-/

It's anticipation, hype and excitement all rolled up as one Glenn. Are you suggesting no one can talk about it or should not be? The DVX100 is one of the best cameras ever released into the industry (specifically the filmmakers) and the next BIG entry is sure to get the juices and wish list flowing.

Why are you in such dismay?

Actually I totally understand where Glenn's coming from -- it is a weird phenomenon, attributable to the Internet age and our insatiable need for instant knowledge, instant response. People had put nails in the coffin of the HDV cameras before they ever came out (MPEG-2 on DV tape? Ridiculous! etc.) And now they're trying to say that the new P2 camera is "too late" (even though it'll be announced only about two months after the Z1 hit the shelves!) Even when the Z1 was still pre-release, people went from euphoria to dismay and back, discussing and analyzing and hyping and discrediting CineFrame 24, progressive scan, all sorts of things. It's like products don't even get a chance on the market anymore, it's like how we handle criminal cases -- "tried and convicted in the media", without even getting to hear the evidence from both sides.

I think what Glenn's getting at is, there's no way anyone, anywhere, is going to answer any of these questions, so why do people ask? The only people who know the answers cannot answer, which means the only people who do answer can only be guessing... so what's the point?

... and I guess the point is, it's fun to speculate, but as a practical matter, there's not much point, is there? Fortunately with this particular product there are some things that are not speculation: DVCPRO-HD is an established format, and there are P2 products in the marketplace already, but how those tie into the new camera become, again, speculation...

Yeh, grab your DVX and a hacksaw, find a 35mm zoom, and get some blocks of steel, some extra wiring and a solder gun, and we can walk you thru it...

I like to stop into that forum from time to time to see if Jan has anything new to say. I'm excited about this camera just like the next person, but watching people ask questions to a wall just isn't my thing. I'm not bitching, or losing sleep over all of this, I just find it a bit....bizare, and was wondering if anybody else noticed it.

Yes. But when the repeated questions, misspellings, and general low-level hysteria gets to me I step away from my computer and go get a taco.
