:)

Thats just pure evil.

I'm scared to load Vegas back on my recently reformatted computer!

Does anybody in here have various Sony software and experience no problems with creating music cds (NOT wave) etc. etc.?

This summer my computer suddenly appeared as if there was never the option to create the music cds that I used to make for myself ALL the time! That's when I did some research and turned up the story in the Sony RootKit.

It's pretty freakin' scary. All I ever hear about any more is digital rights management... and that basically means that it was legally acceptable for Sony BMG to include a VIRUS in about 3 million music cds which would inject a hidden program on your computer... called a RootKit... and these programs can alter other programs, log your listening and recording habits, and send all the info back to Sony every time you log onto the net... ALL hidden... and apparently so far... ALL legal! Sony is catching sh*t for it now... but it still scares the heck out of me and now I don't want to put any Sony software back in my system... since it's working good now.

Hmmm, maybe I missed the joke, but thanks for the tip, I ordered mine. Really though, I'm not sure what all the panic is about, I guess I must be a lucky one because I already own a number of the ACID loop cds (have for years), and have been using Acid Pro for years without any problems... sure I wish they were still an independent under the Sonic Foundry banner. I also use Sound Forge, Vegas, and DVDA.

I had no idea that this had anything to do with their loops and samples cds.... and is this also on their Vegas and DVDA stuff too?

ok, I'm off to do some reading, now I get the joke (I just hope it's only with music cds)

no, I know they added some spyware crap to their BMG music cds, takes over the Windows kernel, but I don't see any mention of them using this crap on any other software: Vegas, DVDA, loops, etc, but I guess as Pookie said "I dare ya", I mean it's hard to trust a major company that's willing to do what they did with the music cds.

Anyway, I just ran sysinternals 'RootKitRevealer', my systems looking clean...

by the way, if anyone has any info suggesting they used this stuff on any other of their software, share that info, thx.
