I challenge someone...

Re: I challenge someone...

This is indeed a weird post and theres no frame grabs or footage in it which will make me move it.

That being said; I am a hug fan of underexposed footage and high contrast. Calibrate your monitors people and the footage you cut will look approximatley the same on the next guys monitor.

The Godfather was grossly underexposed and I think its one of the best photographed films in cinema history.

Re: I challenge someone...

Underexposer (if that's a word) isn't necessarily the problem.

Doing it because you think you are "too cool for school" is.

Re: I challenge someone...

are you just sitting there smoking youre own hair?????

all youve proved in this post is that you dont have a callibrated monitor and that you make unfair judgements about things that you haven't seen in true color.

either way, I'd rather be someone who underexposes their shot because they are "too cool for school" then be the guy who whines about it on a messageboard frequented by proffessionals who praise alot of the great work and collectively blames an entire group of people for youre disinterest in a specific style.

How can you go out and label someobody "too cool for school" anyways, isn't that a bit rash considering you probably don't know 99.99 percent of the people who are on this board regularly?

Re: I challenge someone...

Here is some outdoor, full daylight footage at 30p. I tend to like a wide latitude, but never at the expense of realistic rendering of blacks.

Are you asking for footage that simulates overexposed flashing? In my mind, that Heaven's Gate 1978 Vilmos Zsigmond stuff is really hard to stomach - or are you a big fan of McCabe and Mrs. Miller?

Perhaps you could define exactly what you're looking for by posting some of your own grabs or clips?

Mystic River.

Now there's some nice over-exposure. Great cinematography. Totally blown highlights.

Re: I challenge someone...

GF 1 and 2 are amazing films for me; pure perfect cinema in my humbleness.

I think SHAI had achived the perfect DVX look; for me it is. It is the style of imagery I would like to emulate.
