I Can't Capture in 2.0

First let me say I had no problem capturing in 1.5, but... loaded up Premiere 2.0 and the capture module tells me
"Can't Activate Recorder; Try Resetting Camera."

I'm using the DVX100a and have tried every possible solution I can think of and am not having any luck. I've tried all the different settings for Panasonic cameras (Standard, Alternate 1, etc) since the DVX-100a isn't supported yet.

The "Device Controls"> "Option" button tells me that the device is detected-- I just have no control over the camera as it won't "activate".

Help, my work is backing up-- Anybody have any ideas?

Joe...I haven't had any problems with PP2 recongizing my DVX-100A...try this...without PP2 running...attach the camera to a firewire port...turn the camera on...it might take a second, but you will hear the ding dong sound (hopefully) and a pop up menu which will ask which software to open...choose PP2.0...PP2.0 will ask which project you want to open or define a new project (at this time you can choose the settings - NTSC/PAL WideScreen, etc)...once the project opens and launchs PP2.0 check for the capture window; if the capture window is not open then hit f5...if this doesn't work and you have more than one firewire port...try the procedure on another port.

I hope this helps.

Wel, I went through this process and nothing worked. I was looking at the system requirements for 2.0, which have grown from 1.5, and I'm questioning whether my currect box is compatible/capable. It mentions SSE2 which I don't think my system offers that (Dell 8200 1.8ghz). I happen to have a new system and ordered and hopefully on it's way this week-- Dual AMD Opteron 254's with a Quadro FX1400 Video card. I'm hpoing this will end my issues. I'm just gonna get very back-logged until the computer gets here.

sorry it didn't work for you...but it sounds like you're getting a sweet machine! The SSE2 relates to AMD, so it really doesn't effect me...dual Xeon that I'm running witht the same Vid card you got coming...just an FYI - with your new machine, just verify that you have the updated driver with the new Vid Card...I think Adobe requires driver version 77.56. I had to updated my driver to correct some errors that I was having.

Got it figured out-- I contacted Adobe Tech Support and this is what I found out: I had some Pinnacle software/drivers loaded on this computer for an A/D converter I used to use. Turns out Pinnacle uses "invisible codecs" and Premiere 2.0 uses "invisible codecs" as well. Windows was getting confused on what to use so it wouldn't let me do anything. So, I deleted the old software and am up and running.

BTW-- Premiere 1.5 doesn't use the "invisibles" thus the reason I had no problems with that version.

my problem now!
I have the exact same issue but I was capturing great until last night?
No other NLE's on the computer. I did open audition the other night and that was the only change in my routine. Maybe Microsoft updates but nothing different from when it was working.
help me

If there are changes to your system I might suggest you use your system restore and go back to an earlier point when the capture module was working. If you have success with that and you can capture in Premiere, I would then begin to add back in the updates/changes one at a time, all the while checking your capture module after each change to find the culprit.

You can complete this in about 90 seconds. Just go to Windows Help and Support >look under "Pick a Task" and choose "Undo changes to your system using System Restore". It'll ask you a couple of simple questions and then click restore and let the computer do the work- about 30 seconds later it'll be done. You can then go back to sleep. It's not a biggie and you won't lose any work you've done.

The new system is up and running and screaming. Wow, what a difference in speed, especially with Magic Bullet (although I did update to the latest version of MB which is part of the significant difference).

I'm still waiting for my rebate and MB stuff.
The computer I built seems fast but I can't really compare it to my last system since I was running PP 6.5.
It's an ASUS board with AMD 4200 cpu...2 gigs ram.....Antec piano style case....nvidia pci express video 7800 gt

Sounds like you've got a great system! Hey, I checked out your web site-- awesome work. You're very talented!

Joe, I solved my problem with the capture issue. I had a music keyboard hooked up MIDI and when I turn the keyboard on then PP 2.0 captures again. Crazy stuff
