I can't burn my movie onto DVD!

Can someone please help me?! I'm trying to burn my movie from Vegas 5 to DVD Architect 2, but Architect says that the event is bigger than the 4.7 Gigs on the DVD (around 6 Gigs.) Thing is, the film is 90 minutes long and I know that 4.7 Gig DVD's can hold a two-hour movie, so it's not the length. My film was shot with the Panasonic DVX 100A in 24P Widescreen Anamorphic, so it has a lot of pixels. What can I do to get it on DVD? Thank you in advance. Ruby

Well, there is an easy way to tell how big the file is. Right click on the file, and choose properties. Is it larger than 4.4 GIG's? There are a couple things that I should point out, right off the bat.
first
-Commercial DVD's that run for 2 hours are (usually) on dual layer DVD's ie 9 GB discs
-The math of 4.7GB as shown on the disc, is actually only 4.4GB on your computer (I won't get into why at the moment).

Now, single layer DVD's can hold 4 or 20hrs of video if you wanted, you just have to adjust your bit rate that encode the mpeg video. Try lowering your bitrate, or even better, export the file as a dv-avi or uncompressed DV file and have DVD architect automatically fit it to the disc for you.

HOpe this helps.

Hi, Stefan. Thanks for your reply. Yes, I had checked the Properties and the size of the files are 4.22 g for the video and 1.06 g for the audio (Remember, DVD Architect makes you split them up into two files, .mpeg for the video and .wav for the audio.) How would I go ahead and change the bit rate? I've never done that. And would that lower the sharpness of the 24P footage?

Oh, by the way, I had originally imported the file to Architect as an .avi file, as you mentioned, (since that kept it all in one file) but that file was even bigger, so then I went with the mpeg.

You can change the bit rate when you go to encode the mpeg file. I would not change the bitrate of the AC3 file, only the mpeg file, but that does seem rather large for an AC3 file by the way, you may check that out. Anyways, when you encode the mpeg file, click teh options box, and then click the video tab. it is there where you can alter the bit rate, change it from constant to variable bit rate (which I would reccomend for your project) and so forth.
However, if you add all the files to Architect, as AVI files, Architect will compress them for you. It will say something like (the following files will be recompressed as. . .) you can even change the options for the encoding there, and press optimize for DVD so that it gives you the best encoding you can get for the disc size.

Thank you. I'll go try the bit rate change today. By the way, when I had imported the file as .avi, Architect did say it would recompressed, but after that it was still too big for the DVD. I don't know why.
Also, the audio file isn't an .ac3 file it's a Microsoft .wav file, which is what Vegas told me to transfer the audio into to get it to Architect, so I did. Could that be why the audio file is too large? I appreciate you helping me. Ruby
