I believe The Da Vinci Code

well look at it this way, not only is the Da Vinci Code making buckets of money for the author and film makers, but it is also making piles of cash for all the people selling books to debunk the code. It's extremely egalitarian, Everyone wins!

I haven't read the book, but have heard many critics claim that it's not well written.

It's sort of inspiring that a mediocre novel could generate so much revenue. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I read the novel and although not a deep read it is fun. I think the story is engaging and a bit of adventure.

I liked it and even though I think it is a work of fiction I really don't see what the big deal is if Jesus was married. I don't think it would raddle the foundations of the world as we know it.

Depends on the "we" that you're refering too because there are a lot of people that it would.

People need to chill and worry about themselves. (Not you Wolf)

Just the idea or concept that there are other religions; who cares.

No offense, but that statement belays a certain amount of ignorance.
The issue is not the co-existence of religious ideologies, but the fact that one particular ideology with its own history and dogmas has been rather seriously misrepresented in this book/movie.

My comment was not specific to the Da Vinci Code itself but to the idea of differing religious beliefs and truths. But I do appreciate you trying to make me sound ignorant to what I was making instead of simply asking what I meant.

but the fact that one particular ideology with its own history and dogmas has been rather seriously misrepresented.

And this is a given anyway's aint it ?

The early reviews for The Da Vinci Code are not good. Most calling it a "bore." I'm sure it will make money but it won't be remembered. ...I'd rather be remembered. That's why I created a software app that will continue posting to DVXuser (in PK's name) long after I'm gone. :)

Exactly what is the big deal it is a book and a movie. I just really like thatsome groups want a disclaimer telling people that this is a work of fiction. The people that need to be told this are the same people that have to have the hot warning label on a McDonald’s coffee. I like one interview today, one of the stars, it wasn't Hanks, sorry I am terrible with names but he said that the bible should come with a warning that says its a work of fiction. And that just pissed some people off to no end. So these people are the only ones with points of views and their point of view is right and every one else’s is wrong. That sure makes allot of sense to me.:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

That about sums it up and kind of relates to what I meant 'People need to chiiillll.......'. The people who cried about the The Passion, the people crying about the Da Vinci Code, the Middle East fanatics ... they all kind of give religion a bad name.

I've said, I consider myself a Christian. I have my beliefs and I keep them private. What you do is your gig as long as it doesnt affect me.

Period.

The Da Vinci Code a work of fiction ? You don't say ? Wait, the Bible isnt 100% accurate ? Gasp !

My take on this is as follows:

(Q) What is the core function of Hollywood?

(A) To generate money in exchange for entertainment.

It is for this reason that Hollywood is not an artistic form of expression, it is a business model. It will produce films that have one function that is only to sell. The more a particular film has the potential to sell the more likely that Hollywood will make that particular movie.

It is for this reason that Hollywood looks more like a movie "factory" then a centre for visual artistry or storytelling.

My Personal view is that, in order to fulfil its core aim of increasing profits, Hollywood is looking towards anything that well sell, these include religious controversy (as slanderous, disrespectful, distorted) it may be. Real World events were unfortunately history is glossed over and re-written to fit the palette of Hollywood-ism.

Clearly for those who know about the real history this is nothing more than a distortion of the truth. But worse still is the younger generations for whom they may have not had the change to come to understand the history, the danger lies when the first point of contact for such history of world events is through this picture that is painted by a Hollywood version.

I do not mind watching Hollywood films that are a pure fantasy trips, escapism, but the danger is when Hollywood turns its attention to either religion or world events. These effects peoples lives which is better left to actual real world debaters and scholars, and historians and not packaged into something for mere entertainment.
