I asked for academic they sent me an upgrade, (*&*)&**!!!

Hi,

I just bought final cut 5.1 order over the phone from the apple store, i dint even bother to look on the box when it arrived as i expected it to be what i ordered. In fact i didn't even find out it was an upgrade and not an academic version before trying to install. I have in the meantime thrown out the outside box and i am shooting in 3 days and don't know what to do. It is so disappointing when a impeccable company like apple ****s up so bad. I doubt they will even take it back as i don't have the box. What is the cheapest software i can buy so that i can make this upgrade work? I don't have final cut, so i am totally screwed. What can i do? It suck the most cause i did it to my self, i throw out the box! This really hurts.

Anyone got a great idea?
 
I'd see what the oldest version of FCP is that the upgrade works with, then do a search on eBay. The older the cheaper, I'd think.
 
You should have with all the stuff from inside the box, a couple of stickers that show the QuickTime Pro serial number and the Final Cut Stuite serial number. Do you have those? If then, you can install from the disks you have. Upgrade/new is all the same for FCS now, from what I understand. And I'm not totally clear on this, but I "thought" if there was no previous version on your machine, it would give you the option of entering the serial number that comes with it. And upgrade simply doesn't require the s/n. Do you have those numbers?
 
I would call apple and tell them what happened. They might not take it back but they might be able to tell you the best way to get you up and running.
 
This is why apple rules! No BS and hassle. Just a yes sir, put it in a box and ship it back for a full refund. Costumer for 15 years and this is unlikely to change.

Thanks for your input guys, i was so depressed thinking that they would be a pain. But all is good that ends well. :)

I'm glad everything worked out. The good thing about apple is that because you bought it over the phone they can pull upo the order and see who sold it which makes it easier for them on the phone
