I Am Quitting Smoking Monday.

Like my pappy always tells me: "Progress son, not perfection"

This is kinda creepy but that straight edge guy looks almost exactly like me in HS. In fact, I was thinking "how did somebody get a picture of my graceful, Adonis-like self?"

Hang in there John, you can make it! no one's perfect. As long as you reach your main goal it doesnt matter how you achived it! It should be a joyous feeling to be free from the nicotine slavery. Think about how good it feels to be a non-smoker, be positive

quit it!

my head is going to explode, and it'll be your fault.. cause .. uh .. cause someone quit .. uh something.. dangit.. there goes my head.

..the way of the future, the way of the future, the way of the future, the way of the future, the way of the future, the way of the future, the way of the future, the way of the future, ....

LMAO!

Hey John try some Green Tea next time you get the urge. It helps to calm you down and it is really good for you. I used to smoke, I know what yopu are going through. I know you can do it. Sounds like you've gotton down to the hardest ones to give up. Good job! I used to just tell muself I would just not smoke today. Then wake up the next day and say the same thing. I used to tell people when they asked if I had quit "No, I'm just not smoking today" Hey it worked for me. Also everytime I had the urge, I do something completley different like running till I was out of breath. You have to break the routine of it. Hang in there Rome was not built in a day.

I just came across this thread. Glad you are doing this. I quit on March 7th of this year, cold turkey....I had been smoking about a pack a day for 17 years.

Anyway, I needed to do it, I promised my kids and I was deathly afraid of getting emphasema.

It was tough and I still get some psychological cravings but the physical cravings are long gone.

You won't regret it....I thought I would because it was such an ingrained part of my creative process but I am better without it.

I'm hurting. I just had a solid workout. Did the weights; which I love doing and started 'skipping rope' for the first time for added cardio when I can't get out and ball.

Skipping Rope hurts so bad. 10 Minutes and I was sweating, heart racing and breathless. Damn.

Why after I work-out (This has been true in the past) do I want to smoke even more? Is it a Blood Pressure thing? What? I need a smoke. Stay on Target.

>: i

Here's an old trick I remember from long ago John. Get yourself a jar with a lid and stuff it half full with old butts (if you don't have any left, just cruise around downtown and get em off the sidewalk...Everyone else does) Once you get the butts in, wet them down real good with water so they are really soaking wet but not quite floating around. Put the lid on the jar and let it fester. The next time you feel the urge, remember all the bad things about smoking and take a good sniff inside that jar. I found this helpful!

Smoking lowers your blood pressure. One of the reasons why people do it, it helps them calm down.

But of course it's a lot cooler if you have jedi control over your mind and body. Stay on target. Good work man.

every once in awhile i read something that makes me laugh so hard I fall off my chair. Thanks mino.

10 minutes? Man I couldn't skip rope for ten seconds.

It's a physical addiction, but a mental game. Try this: Instead of thinking of yourself as someone who is quitting smoking, start thinking of yourself as a non-smoker. There is no more powerful thing than the 6 inches between your ears. Make it work for you.

Say it out loud, write it down, make it a mantra. "I am a non-smoker"

It wasn't 10 Minutes non-stop. It was skip for 10 revolutions, trip over rope, hop over it, do another 4 to 13 revolutions, have rope get caught in my new Sketchers, hop over, do another 12 revolutions.

At one point I did do the Crossover though; I was like "I'm Rick James...*****."

LOL John, I'm glad to hear you're quitting... and it sounds like you're going to make it.

What movie was it that referred to the three day hump? After three days, it's easy... but those first three days are hell.

*EDIT*

I just googled it. It was SuperSize Me. lol

Either way, keep on truckin!!
