I am in fork: shotgun

Can't you mount a shotgun mic on a DVX100? In this picture there is a mount:

Where do you get that mount and do you have to use panasonics microphone? Can you use your own shot gun microphone? I'd like to put a nice shotgun mic on my camera for wedding footage. Just for general audio? Is a shotgun mic the right choice?

I personally would pick the Audi Technica, but I'm biased since that's what I've always used at school.

don't use a shotgun on the camera because it takes up sound from the back to. Use a cardioid microphone instead.

I'd choose the AT835b over the Azden. Audio Technica has a much better reputation, although the Azden mic is workable.

A shotgun mic is a cardioid. A super-cardioid, which has more side/rear rejection than a plain-vanilla cardioid.

Yes a shotgun is a supercardiod but still they takes more sound from the back then a cardioid.

Yeah, but just barely on the good ones.

I'd rather have that than pick up the camera's motor because it's sitting in the cardioid lobe.

Ok, Guys! I have turned on AT835b :) Thank you.
One more Q: in which case you are using this shotgun on the camera. What sort of shot you are doing with?
