I am going to kill myself!!!! AHH!!!!!!!!

Okay seriously. WTF! Please help before i nuke China.

I'm using FCP 5.1 and for whatever reason all my transitions are set to 1 frame. No matter what i do, i can't get them past 1 frame and into a normal setting. If I try to change the length in the effects panel, then take it to the sequence timeline to the viewer, no dice. Basically no matter WHAT I do it will not work.

I'll even look at it in the Viewer, see the clock at the top left say 00:00:02;00 and then drag it down between the two clips (Edge Wipe for example) and then it only has it for 1 frame and won't allow me to put it between the two clips and only on top of 1.

Please help me I've been trying everything in the book for over an hour and i seriously want to harm something/someone.

That usually caused by the fact that you don't have enough room outside your in and out points for handles.

Each clip is over 20 seconds long, and i checked the in/out points of all the clips. In the viewer I click and drag changing the duration (an alternative to manually entering it in by the clock) and then drag ... no luck.

You didn't say where your ins and outs are. If they are at the beginning and end of the clip, that may be the problem. I think the point Blaine is saying is the ins and the outs must be at least as far from the beginning and end of the clips (and subclips) as you want to use a transition for. So an in point for a clip must be at least 1 second from the beginning of the clip and the ending must be at least a second from the end of the clip in order for you to use the transitions for 2 seconds.

Otherwise the program doesn't have enough material to dissolve from/into.

Alternatively, you can go old school and place one clip on track 2 and have it overlap the end of the clip on track 1 and then set keyframe opacity settings to recreate a dissolve transition.
