I am a Sucker

Well I see this ad on craigslist for some help with a doc about animals abandoned by Katrina. It turns out that about 200 dogs from that area have been placed in foster homes around the Twin Cities.
I talk to the director, everything seems pretty cool, and it is a subject that has the concern of my wife and I. So I tell them I have no problem putting up some of my time to do a bit of shooting on these four feral puppies that they have some footage of being rescued down there.
I do a few interviews, shoot some b roll, and then I call my wife. They are cute as hell, and have basically had no human interaction until they were rescued (not quite three months old). I tell my wife about them, and she says why don't we foster them. THEM are you nuts, turns out they want to seperate them so they are less attatched on each other. So one at a time is all that is needed. So as you probably have already figured out, we have a puppy sleeping in a crate in our spare room. Cute as hell. That always gets ya.
She needs a name, and a buinch O love.
I will post pictures a bit later. A flash does not seem like a good idea at the moment.

Dude.... you did not see that coming? Where did you go to school?

I don't think he's actually complaining. I think he's a happy puppy-lover... nothing wrong with that. :)

Oh I am happy, we talked about it right after the huricane. Just did not have the oportunity. Phase one is getting her used to humans, then phase two will be introducing her to the zoo (dog and two cats)
We were thinking something cajun for a name.

You have to give her a name that reflects her roots. What about a gender-neutral name like "Caine" (as in hurri-...). Or Easy (as in The Big Easy and Easy to love), although i must say I would hesitate to name a girl critter of any kind "Easy" since that could be taken the wrong way... Zydeco... VooDoo... Marie Laveau (New Orleans' great Voodoo Queen)... Queenie (a great Southern girl dog name)... Beignet (pronounced Ben-yay) for the wonderful donuts at Cafe du Monde (you could call her Bennie if Beignet is too fancy for her)... anyway, i'm just freestyling here, you get the idea. I have two adopted dogs; one was rescued in Memphis when his family left him in a vacant apartment. He's like a dachsund-chihuahua mix and I named him Little E (for Little Elvis). I say, go with her roots. And congratulations! You did an awesome thing.

You know what? I have a lot of respect for you for doing the whole adoption thing. That is great. Right after the storms everyone was debating on who to send money to, but for me there was only one option? Humane Society. It is people like you who keep these animals from getting put to sleep, so you really did a great job.

If you want, PM me your address. I will get together some additional dog toys and things like that and get them shipped up to you. That's a great job you did, and you should feel great!

Interesting attitude, we always seen it as a sincere form of showing admiration. Oh well.

Of course, Prairieboy is free to do as he chooses. Personally, I've always thought it odd/strange/whatever to use people names for animals... especially, one-syllable names... like Bob.

The thing that made the whole schtick with Letterman's "My Dog Bob" funny, was the fact his dog was named Bob.

OK.

I once knew a guy who named his dog Stay. He did it just to confuse the dog when he started teaching it tricks. He'd get the dog's attention and say, "C'mere stay"...of course, "stay" was the first command he taught the dog.

I know it's cruel...I'm just tellin' ya'll what happened. (how do you like those southern slangs I threw in there - in honor of this story originating in Loozee Anna)

I keep waiting for someone to suggest naming the dog Katrina....
Glad nobody has.
I think "Shawshank" would be a cool dog name.

VooDoo, Zydeco, I like both of those. I think we are keeping it along those lines. A couple more and we have a poll.
Jarred and Hudson, although fine names, just are not doing it for me. Sorry fellows.
We are not doing much. The thanks goes to all those folks who have been going down there to help. Animal Arc (animalarcshelter.org) has agroup that goes down every Monday. They try to get folks to stay down for a few weeks. It was a really touching day. Rather amazing. Thanks for the offer for toys. We are Ok. If you want to help out find a local place that is taking in dogs and give it to them. Believe me our dog can share what he has. He is spoiled enough.
