I almost got scammed today...

I was reading my inbox this morning and paypal(or so I thought) had sent me an email saying that a new email address had been added to my account. The address was completely unknown to me so I clicked the link in the message and was taken to (what I thought was) the paypal login page. Not thinking to read the address bar in my browser I went ahead and entered my name and password. This led me to a page(still under the guise of paypal) requesting credit numbers and whatnot. Flags went up.

I stopped here and noticed that "paypal" was nowhere in the address bar. I quickly went to the real paypal login page, signed in and changed my password, so no damage done. I've known about these fake login pages for a while, but this is my first experience with them first hand. Beware! Always look at the address bar of login pages, and don't access login pages from email links.

Anyway, thanks for reading. I hope this helps at least some people avoid scams like these.

I get about 5 of these phishing emails a day (between paypal and ebay). Forward them to spoof@paypal.com and their fraud department investigates the sites behind the scams and tries to shut them down. Since I get so many a day, I wonder how effective they are at doing that, though.

Same goes with eBay. I get messages all the time from scammers fishing for ebay passwords. Bad people suck.

Edit: D'oh! HorseFilms wins it by a nose.

Ya, a few weeks back i actually got one of these for the first time ever from paypal, i went to the page and saw it wasnt HTTPS, so i didnt login and fowarded the email to paypal spoof
