Hyson Matte Box

I'm torn. Order the Hyson or wait on the RRock Mattebox. Anyone with first hand experience with the new Hyson? Pros? Cons?

I had an old Hyson mattebox and it was awesome for the price...but that new one is definitely a work of art.

Hear nothing but good things about the Hyson but having it put through the Tim Naylor standard should give us all some idea.

About the RR mattebox: You should probably hear something about that very soon. It's been a LONG wait for us all but it's gonna pay off! Trust those guys over at RR! You know first hand they brought you a good Follow Focus, and even improved on it. Imagine what taking their time with this mattebox has done.

Tim if you need a matte box right now, get the Hyson, but if you dont mind waiting, wait till the RR comes out and see if it is worth it. Its funny, when I was at CineGear Expo last summer and talked to Brian, he showed my his matte box(the Prototype) and I thought nothing of it really, dont get me wrong, it was very nice, but I thought it would be out in a few months, I had no I idea I saw BigFoot and I would be out for another year or two...

I too was waiting for RR and it looks like they will announce a
potential release date in a few weeks but that will still be a few
month or more out before people can get it.
I am hoping they are not just stringing us along.

hyson is all worth it!

I'm one of the 1st 50 who will get the RR mattebox. I was lucky to get on the reserve list as soon as it was posted. Hopefully today's announcement from RR will result in a new mattebox on my rig shortly.

When I get it I will certainly share my impressions.
