Hypercardioid or Supercardioid

sorry about my stupidity, :-[
I am confused after reading the post below(shotgun vs lav)

I thought Hypercardioid is the same thing as Supercardioid shotgun.

ME66, AT4073a, MKH-60, AT897 : Super cardioid OR short shotgun

then

ME64 is hyper cordioid?

I thought ME64 was just cardioid....

so I guess super cardioid is more narrow directional than hyper cardioid?

So in general, is it better to use mics like Oktava MC012+Hypercardioid front capsule or ME64 for indoors? and use short shotgun mics like AT4073a for exteriors?

Re: Hypercardioid or Supercardioid

Dynamic mics, like handheld news mics are cardioid.

You nailed it. Sometimes, you will need a long shotgun for exteriors, but what you said pretty much covers it.

Re: Hypercardioid or Supercardioid

thanks alot guys,
I thought super and hyper cardioid were the same,
but ...
I think dynamic is just a type of mic, the opposite of condenser mic.
it is a type of mic that creates an electrical current based on the motion of a diaphragm attached to a movable coil suspended in a magnatic field.

Re: Hypercardioid or Supercardioid

Don't forget that cardioid and super cardioid, as well as omnidirectional, is not about the type of construction, but pick up pattern. Of course the tech of construction will determine the final result, but the titles are from the shape of the pickup pattern, ina cardioid, it looks like a heart. The more directionalheart shapped mics are called super and hyper. You can guess that when they are so narrow they can't be called cardioid anymore (in case of long guns) they are called lobar.

that, if I remeber my last audio class well. I Could be somewhat mistaken...
