HVX200 Variable Framerates in FCP

We shot 720p60 via p2 card, I installed the "DVCPRO HD Framerate Converter" onto FCP, but when I click it in tools, literally nothing happens. Nothing comes up, no error or anything, its like it wasn't even clicked. I tried installing it from the FCP install CD and from Panasonic's website. Anyone have any ideas or alternate ways to change the framerate?

(1) What version of FCP are you using?

(2) Did you shoot 720p60 or did you shoot 720p24 at 60 fps? Those are two different settings in the camera. The variable frame rates (12, 48, 60) are a different setting than recording rates (24p, 24pN, 60p, etc).

cheers.

FCP v5.1.4 on an Intel Mac Pro... and it was shot at either 720p60 or 720p24 with the 60 framerate... and even if it wasn't shot correctly (but I think it was), I would think that SOMETHING would come up when I picked the frame-rate converter in FCP, an error or anything... and I just did a test shooting footage in 720p24 at 12fps and 720p60 60fps and again, clicking the converter tool did nothing! Any other thoughts?

Okay, break it down, what exactly are you doing, from start to finish here? Are you importing the footage first, or are you trying to use the tool on the MXF files on the cards mounted to your desktop?

You need to bring the 720p24 60fps footage in at the generic DVCPro HD 720p60 setting. Then with those clips in your project file, you can select them and then click on the Frame Rate Convertor tool from the menubar. Not to say you're not doing this, but you didn't explicitly say you were, so can't assume you are.

Finally, if you're doing all that, and still fubared on you, then I would try a trashing of my preferences. See if that will flush out the problem for you. Good luck.

cheers.

Yea I imported the p2 material into FCP at the DVCPRO HD 720p60 preset. That is when I tried using the Converter- tried it by selecting clips in the browser, timeline, and the viewer, but again, nothing happens at all when I click the Converter. I deleted my prefs (thanks for that tip!) but still, nothing worked. Tried uninstalling the plugin and reinstalling, but still, nothing. Got anything else? I really appreciate your help!!

Only other thing I can think of is to copy and paste the 60fps clips into another project file (not just another bin or such, but entirely different project). Then try to use the Convertor tool in the new project. I know of a few people, myself included, that have hit some odd snags with the Convertor tool, and one of the things that helped me is to only apply it to clips in a different project then where I imported/digitized the original (VFR) clips to. Good luck.

cheers.

No worries. Good to hear it finally worked out for you. No real direct mention of better P2 features in FCS 2, so here's hoping its there and not mentioned or that it'll be available for FCP 6.0.1.

cheers.
