HVX200 P2 Import into FCP 5.1.2 Problems

Hey Guys. I recently shot a commercial in 720pN on the HVX200. We used two P2 cards, and I backed them up to a Mac Laptop on an external drive and the internal drive.

I have been having a few problems importing them into FCP. The P2 Directories are complete and intact.

Finnally realizing that I couldn't name the clips longer than 15 or so characters without getting a corrupt 4k file upon import, I proceeded to import all my clips with only one error and a three clips that Imported but are not in the correct frame rate.

1) One of my P2 clips will not import whatsoever. I add it to the batch queue and it sits there stalled, finally if I click it in the queue, a red exclamation mark shows up under status and it still won't import. How do I import this file? I can't figure it out.

2) Three clips seemingly imported without fault, however upon playing them in the FCP viewer, they are stuttering. I got info on them in FCP and in QT, and found that they have frame rates of 9.99 and 10.99 for the other two. The audio still plays fine, but it out of sync with the video. I have tried reimporting them with different names, and different in and out points and also with the original metadata to no avail. What do I do?

Thanks guys, any help is much appreciated.
Cheers

1) Are you trying to import them from the desktop? From most of the threads I remember reading this past summer, it was often noted that you want put the "cards" (if you don't have the originals in the camera to mount on the desktop) onto the desktop for FCP.

2) You said you have it backed up on an external drive, have you tried loading it onto another FCP system? Just do a quick check to see if something funky is happening on your system's side of things or if there is a flaw with the "cards" your trying to import.

3) If you have a clean backup of the original P2 cards (Contents folder and lastclip.txt file) you might want to look into going out to tape. If you get those contents back onto cards, then firewire from the HVX 200 to a DVCPro HD deck (AJ-HD1200A or its new cool brother). Yes it will add pulldown going out to tape, but it won't degrade the quality. And I'm sure not a solution you want for a tapeless workflow, but if you need the footage and other trouble shooting methods are failing, it might be what you have to do.

cheers.
