please don't kill this thread just because it doesn't relate to advertisers or friends of this forum. everyone here is always looking for the best deal and i'm also curious.

does anyone have experience with the online store called onixstyle.com? they have great prices on cameras and computers including an hvx200 for $4,235.00. i placed my order but they never took payment info. apparently they only do transactions through e-gold payments. i can't find any real feedback from e-gold customers so it seems shady. anyone have experience?

Wigby,

I think the best course of action is to buy from an Authorized Panasonic Dealer. Many of them have excellent prices, and you'll know that you're dealing with a reputable company. A lot of times the companies that have incredibly low prices are selling you pieces of the system, such as the camera body, then the battery charger, then the batteries, etc. I know nothing about this dealer. Shop between the authorized dealers.

Never heard of it, but it sounds like a ripoff. I seriously doubt you'd get the HVX for that price and I would cancel that order immediatelly.

They have no history with resellerratings, which probably means that they were probably created overnight.

And since they're not Panasonic Authorized you'd be getting a grey market camera with no warranty. (That's if they even sent you the camera.)

Not to mention if you do a search on the web for them, there's only a few links that are all no older than one month.... hmmm.

If you placed a deposit, get your money back. If no deposit, but gave your card # than call you credit card company and have them not accept authorization.

all i have to say is i bought my DVX from EVS and i had quite the positive experience, in the long run i think that's worth the extra 400 bucks i might have paid extra assuming that those shady companies didn't screw me over, which they prolly would have.

authorized dealer's are the best.. if you live in california or new york do a little shopping between EVS and B&H, it was cheaper for me to have EVS ship it cross country then for me to pay the 8.5% tax, so i got it from EVS... and i technical write for B&H haha, shhhhh don't tell!

I don't see any history here at photo.net either (even though they're more oriented toward still photography, there's been some very helpful "Beward of these guys" reviews posted there).

If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

What's that supposed to mean?

its not about "advertisers or friends of this forum" it's about quality, legit products, good experiences, and nothing else. the companies featured here are so because they have a good history with our members, that's not something to feel bad about, we're lucky to have those relationships and an open forum that looks out for one another.

do you really want to short-change yourself right out of the gate to save a few bucks? we aren't talking pots and pans here, this is an important tool to make your art. if you want to ignore all the feedback given here that's fine, but for your own sake, whoever you decide - buy from an authorized dealer.

Only buy from authorized dealers.
It is the only way to safeguard yourself from getting ripped off.

The company has every single red flag of being a rip off....
Price is well below what is should be, there are no reviews for the company, no links more than a month old, and no one has every heard of them.

As Lyon's Den mentioned, it's not about "friends of this forum" it's about being able to buy with confidence knowing you won't get ripped off.

yeah, its not worth getting screwed cause you wanted to save 400 bucks. If there is no history...pass.

I got taken for $800 in the beginning days of ebay. I'll never send another M.O., especially for a "200lb lot of assorted grip gear from foreclosed business, including....", unless it is to a legit brick n mortar company I know and trust.

it means...

i've seen other threads from other commercial forums get terminated early by moderators for mentioning competition or suspicious retailers. i don't have a problem with that when the thread has gone off on a tangent or the poster is just trying to plug his/her own website. but since i was just looking for negative or positive feedback regarding this specific dealer, i was hoping i wouldn't get lumped in with them.

The only "retailer" posts we delete are people who try to hawk their wares without permission. Doesn't have to do with "competition." Has to do with this not being a free advertising forum.

We're not a "commercial" forum; we're a user group.
