HVX200 & FCP 6 Problem

Hi there, I am a new hvx user and have been getting used to panasonic's layout for the past couple of days. When I go to the log and transfer window in fcp, it shows the correct exposer. Once the clip is transferred from the camera and is in the browser/timeline the contrast is way darker than what is shown in the log and transfer window. I asked this in the HVX200 section, and they said this is a fcp/mac problem that has been reported before, and to come here for help. I hope you guys can help me out

Never ever EVER judge the quality of your footage by either that Log and Transfer window (that just shows you what you have...NOT full quality) nor your Viewer or Canvas...your computer monitor. FCP lowers the resolution of the footage to ensure full frame playback. It is never the place to judge the quality of the picture. Only sending the signal to an external HDTV or Broadcast Monitor will show you what your footage really looks like.

It isn't a MAC problem. It is a proper monitoring issue.

I'm just confused why it looks fine in the log and transfer but once in the time line it is extremely dark and gross

So basically I can't color my footage or edit properly without an external monitor? I thought there would be people like me using just a macbook pro or imac

You can edit properly...who said you couldn't edit properly? You can edit fine. But crucial judging of what the footage looks like, or proper color correction, you cannot properly do without an external monitor. This has always been the case.

There are plenty of people like you, with only a MBP. They get by without a monitor, judging the best they can based on the computer monitor. It might be OK, but it will look different if you burn a DVD or output back to tape. People just live with that...deal.

Yeah cutting and final grading two separate things. And you want a real monitor for the second, for just cutting a laptop is not ideal but totally acceptable.

even after I export to QT, burn to dvd and play it on a tv/monitor, it still has this gamma issue. When in final cut the actual gamma is being affected. I don't see how an external monitor changes anything because fcp is changing the gamma? I'm just really confused :Drogar-Thinking(DBG

is there some sort of setting in fcp I can change so the gamma isn't all wacky? I've been working with fcp for some time now and this is the only time i've seen this happen, though before I was dealing with SD camera's.

Also I just went to a friends house and the footage looked fine on his iMac/FCS 3, nothing was changed. I'm using a 2 year old macbook pro and FCS 2.
