HVX200 + Cinevate Macro Shoot...

One of the features of our flip and non-flip adapter rigs is that our very high quality 72mm achromats can be easily removed and used "bare" on the camera. This allows some pretty extreme macro shooting. This is 30p footage from the HVX200 that except for the first few seconds, was entirely shot with just our non-flip 72mm achromat out front. Please forgive the watermark. Enjoy :-)

Good question. This all came about when Nick was shooting an assignment last year and wanted to do some macro shooting. My first recommendation was to ditch the adapter, forget 35mm macro lenses, and just shoot with the achromat. Since then he's been doing lots of work with the achromat (including some stunning human eye close-ups) mostly with his own HV30. So other than early chromatic aberration testing, I've done little shooting in this mode.

Any of the big cams will work just as well as you're zooming well into the "sweet" area of the optics. The non-flip achromat is more powerful and so will allow you to zoom further into your subject.

Wow that pretty impressive I don't know why I've never thought of using my nonflip and flip achromats like this!

That spider is clearly laughing at your camera technique :-D

For super macro, I put two lenses together, 50mm on the adapter and then another 50mm stuck front end onto the first one, so both front elements face each other. Kind of awkward but got some good shots...

The credits said it was an HVX200...

Nick came in this am properly horrified that I'd taken his good name into the trash. It is indeed HVX200 and I apologize for the mistake. I've edited my post and requested JR change the title.

Cheers,
Dennis

Yes, and actually if it had been shot with the HV30, we'd have at least another 100 lines of vertical resolution. The downside is that the color and movement at 30p wouldn't have been quite as brilliant :-) Come to think of it, this is a perfect application for 60p. The little critters move so quickly it's nearly impossible to find a clean still at 30p. Certainly it's no place for hand-held work.
