HVX200 and the Firestore FS-4 pro

I really don't like tape workflow, and I do lots of SD stuff.
Does the Firestore FS-4 offer a good solution for SD only recordings using the HVX200?

What are the pros and cons if it is even possible?

I am waiting for the cineporter like a 5 year old watching mollassas drip on a winter day.

:cheesy:

FS-4 will work for DV with an HVX. If you can afford the FS-100 it lets you do DV, DVCPRO50, and HD; the FS-4 only does DV.

Thanks Barry.
My situation is that I would rather spend the 2 grand on the cineporter, but it is not available yet.

90% of what I use the hvx200 for is SD stuff.
I might be able to justify $650 for the FS-4 for SD, and wait to spend the $2,000 on the cineporter.

It just seems like the better HD hard drive solution is the cineporter, over the firestore FS-100....but it is vapor ware.

I gather that you are suggesting that by buying the FS-100 now, I can do it all NOW. I am starting to see the value in that.

My second concern is the reliability of the drive in the FS-100.
It sems that every drive I subject to rides in the car trunk, being left in interior car temps over 100 in the sumer, and freesing during days like today, the drives last less than 6 months. I just had one fail yesterday.

Is the FS-100 hard drive replaceable with an off the shelf drive?

That is my largest concern.
Since the cineporter is user replaceable, that makes me want to wait, combined with the fact I am doing mostly SD stuff anyway, and swapping 8 gig cards is working so far.

The FS-100 would be all I need, but my question becomes...for how long?
If one can not replace the drive, then it becomes useless after the life of the drive.

Give me some feedback.
