So i can get everything set up, but i am having a real hard time getting everything focused and such.

Disclaimer: i just got this tonight and im ancy, so it might just be because im trying to shoot in my house and its very dark.

But, regardless of the disclaimer, im at Z85 (recommended) but ~80 focus(recommended) isn't anywhere close to being in focus but at 99 its gets close but i cant get it sharp at all. is it the lighting or am i doing something wrong?

i have hvx200, 5x achromat, microX encore flip, original m2 w/ nikon 50mm 1.4.

I'm pretty sure you need to focus on the glass. If you turn the RedRock off and let the glass stop rotating, you can see where it gets grainy. Focus your camera on that and then don't change the camera focus at all. It may be different with the Encore/HVX, but that's how its worked so far for me.

It helps to be in a well lit scene because obviously the adapter eats up a lot of light. Try it tomorrow when you can take it outside.

because at 99 focus (camera), its not as sharp as it should be and anything lower is soft

Hmmm are you sure you have it set up right? With the right amount of spacers/rings etc? Changing those might help, maybe mess with that a little bit and see what you can do...

So i took the glass out of a UV filter and at Z85 and 99 focus i could produce a decently sharp image, so i think i will get more and keep adding til i get what i need

added 3 rings, at z85 and focus 99 im still getting a decently sharp image, but not as sharp as i want. am i just expecting too much?

So, it appears im not expecting too much. I decided to try out the m2 without the flip. Eureka! sharpness! Now i was curios to why it worked with this and not with my flip. I discovered (and i feel so damn stupid for not thinking this was a problem) that i had an extra ring between my m2 unit and my flip unit (it was a ring with a rubber like cover that folded out, i found out is meant to be used with the m2 unit only with the coupler). With changing this, i have achieved sharpness and i am happy. I hope this thread helps anyone else out in the future.
