HVX tape mode

I'm planning on buying an HVX, however I only have enough money to buy the camera only. My idea was to use the camera to record to mini DV until i have enough money to buy a cineporter. Is the HVX just like the DVX when recording to mini DV? Does it do 24P for tape?
 
...yes, it will do 24p to tape - just like the dvx100. However, it will not do DVCPRO50 or DVCPROHD to tape, only to the P2 or the Firestore drive.

I decided the same thing.
Either I stream to FCP, or just rent 8 gig P2 cards. They are only 45 bucks a day.
Later when the price drops...I'll pick some up. For now, renting works fine.
 
$45 a day...that is good.
I usually rent my stuff for a division of 12 from the buy price.

In other words Buy at $1350 divided by 12 = $112.50 a day for me.
