HVX package?

Hey guys, I'm looking for a reputable website that sells full packages, like an HVX camera with lighting kit, sound kit, etc. Can you point me to some links?

I'm assuming the HVX is the best HD/24p camera on the market right (in the 5-10K range)? If there's something better, let me know that too.

Thanks guys!

B&h sells something like that. but youre better off getting it all seperatly. this way youre oney is spent on what you need specifically.

search for hvx200 on the bh site and they're there. They dont have a full lighting kit but what do you mean by full lighting kit? Mine varies from project to project - on a good day its just a few reflectors and the sun. Anyways my point is that you are much better off buying the hvx and a lighting kit seperate. BH used to have some decent "kits" as far as p2 cards and other accessories go though. Beware they are a big giant store that to me is no better at customer service than bestbuy or any other box store. Not like they are going to screw you, but I dont expect much in the way of service from them. Spec-comm however has been fantastic for me, as well as Alan Gordon, and ZGC. And I do agree the HVX is the best in its range for 24P HD, but its the p2 cards that make it really rock and roll. Just spent a few hours capturing HDV tapes yesterday and had forgotten how much I hate tapes...

Packages are for people who don't know what they want or need. Often times, they include popular but lesser quality gear. For instance, stay away from Sennheiser Me-66 shotgun mics. Also, buy multi-coated filters - not just plain ol' Tiffens.

Spend some time researching here in the audio and lighting forums and you'll understand.

Better to just get it separately as said... besides p2 cards are all out of stock right now, so there won't be any packages that include that (or at least the cards will be on back order and likely not ship with your camera and other equipment.

Best to just find the best deals, and buy from a couple of places.

Check with spec-comm and other authorized dealers for the camera and cards. Spec has good pricing, and discounts when paying by certified check. B&H has pretty good deals and wide availability on other equipment that you might want/need.

Check the where to buy sticky for a list of some of the authorized dealers, several of which support this site: Spec-Comm, Abel Cine, etc, etc.

As of a couple of days ago, B&H did not have the hvx in stock... so always call anyplace, don't rely on the website.

Terry, I've found my ME66 to be excellent, especially for background noise rejection. On what basis do you make this statement, and what do you recommend instead? (for on-camera run&gun ops).

I own one and I'd never buy another. Being forced to use the K6 module is reason alone. Audio Technica makes a better, less expensive microphone.

I'm not alone in my opinion. Check out the Audio forum for more info from the real audio gurus.

I will have about thirty grand to by the camera, a small (but decent) lighting and sound kit. For a few corporate video shoots coming up. Think I can find what I need with that budget? Also shooting a short film with this equipment. I'll check those sites, but any specific items you can suggest would be helpful.

Thanks for the help, never really dealt on the purchasing end of things.

Probably for sure, yeah. I had 25 grand and that was two cameras, computer and everything... except for lights, and some toys that I want. But, the basics... from cameras, batteries, cards, sound, tripod, stabilizer, computer, 2nd monitor, NLE, Dolgin charger, etc, etc.

Specific items (like brands, and such) are kind of hard, b/c it depends more on what you need it for.

But, of course a good tripod is a must. That means 1500 and up. In that range. You need some mics (what kind depends on your application). Batteries... the list goes on...

I highly recommend getting the dolgin quick charger. You can fully charge 4 batteries at once in a few hours. Indespensable, in my opinion.

I recommend doing some more thorough browsing of the hardware section, the lighting section, the audio section in particular. Then you can have a more specific idea of what you need/want and post more specific questions in those threads if you don't find what you are wanting covered already (but it is:thumbsup: )

Hope that helps a little,
Jason
