HVX-LEX Setup

Here's the setup I'm using: LEX w/ Nikon 20, 28, 35, 50, 85 lenses; Chrosziel MatteBox, rails & base; Cavision lens support; Lectrosonic 201 UHF; IKAN/Noga; Sachtler18.

Quyen mentioned that the LEX would work up or down and this way I avoid having to drop the rails down each time I changed from stock HVX to the LEX.

The Chrosziel is light enough that I can mount it directly to the lens while on the Sachtler but time will tell if I'll need to add a rail extension to support it for handheld work.

Another lens hood option is using the stock lens hood from my HVR-Z1U.

Nice rig, but I take it you will not be using a follow focus?

You know... I've spent so much time behind a Nikon that twist focus is second nature to me, though I'm sure if I ever tried a FF, I'd be hooked. Right now I'm more concerned with weight and mobility.

How good is it at reducing long lens shake?
...when used under the actual lens of course.

The Cavision support is under the LEX at the end of the rods. I am sure if I was to use any lens longer than the 85, which I don't anticipate doing, I would need a rod extension and more support for the lens and matte box.

Right now it works quite well.

looks very interesting? have you used manfrottos before? I'm looking for a good comparison!

I have used a Manfrotto and, unfortunately, there is no comparison. The Manfrotto is an ok basic head but the Sachtler is, in my opinion, smooth as silk and the standard by which other heads can be measured.

I used to have the Video 18, is this a newer version of that head?

I agree Sachtlers rock the house, but Panthers and O'Connors are also pretty sweet.

It's a new 18SB which stands for Smart Balance. It has 10 levels of v&h drag and ten vertical levels of counterbalance. My old 20 was stolen and I replaced it with this one because it could go to a lower weight. My old 20 wouldn't balance less than 15 lbs. I guess I'm prejudiced but I haven't found anything better but of course you pay for it. There are a lot of heads that cost less than a S. The 20 was paid for and the insurance bought this one.
