HVX Kessler Crane

Were interested in purchasing the Kessler Crane for our HVX. Would like to get people's opinion on what accessories etc they would go with.

Were going to need a field monitor to go with it, tripoid, camera controls etc.

I will also be contacting Kessler, but always like to hear from you guys!!

Thanks!

The review in the articles covers alot of the accessories, but as far as my hvx/kessler combo, I found all of the following necessary and ended up ordering 3 times as I found the need for these extra items:

Swivel Head
Brake bar
Tool-less kit 12ft
Ball Relocater
Mark V tripod

Though Eric assures a bogen 516 can handle the weight of the crane set-up, I find myself worrying too much, especially when using the 12 footer. He may very well be right, and I might just be playing it safe.... but I'd rather that than have to buy another fluid head. Instead, I decided to purchase the ball relocator and the fluid swivel. This way if I need the tilt function I'll just operate it on the end of the crane as opposed to the base. Obviously, this limits you with height restrictions, but I don't find my self using that many tilting shots with the crane at an unreachable height.

The bogen 3182/3192 tripods does fine for both the 8 and the 12, but I'm going to get the Mark V tripod for its high-rated weight capacity and the casters for mobility.

For controls my friend likes the zoom commander they sell, but I just use the Varizoom PZFI, which they also sell.

Since I'm also using the HVX, chosen monitor is the marshall.

Most of this stuff is on Eric's site, less the marshall, or any hd viewing monitor for that matter. I think the new Ikan might be good option.

how does the sharpness and color accuracy look on you guys' monitors that you're using? i'm looking to get the kessler myself in a coupla weeks but trying to decide on which monitor to use with the hvx

The monitor I use is just for reference, I have a 14" sony HD crt monitor that i judge color with and i loop that to the 7" monitor.

thats sounds like a good idea. someone else suggested i do this in another thread. how do you use this workflow if you're out in the field though? or you just dont worry about it then?

i'm sorry. i was just asking in other words what do you use to power that additional monitor to (the sony) when you're out in the field where you cant just simply plug it into the wall?

if you were in a city park, a back alley, a city street or wherever, how would you power the 14' sony? it isnt connected to the camera for power the way the small monitor does right?

well, on all of my shoots we have a generator for lights and etc...
the 7" monitor gets power from the same batteries the as my HVX200 because it has the panasonic battery adapter.
you can always go to homedepot and rent a small generator that will run the monitor, computer and maybe a light or two(depending on how big the generator is).
hope this helps.
