MWHAHAHAHA> THE REVOLUTION OF DIGITAL MEDIA IS < NOW

I have already seen the test footages from the HVX. It is truly incredible. I also had the opportunity to shoot with it which was fitted with the PS-technic adapter. I will post some screen grabs tommorrow.

Is the G35 ever going to be released?

"Summer, no ah end of Summer, well um, by October, I mean Halloween,.....definately by Christmas"

I hope the wait is worth it. HVX + G35 = perfect value at a perfect price point.

Cheers,
Chris

Excuse me while I burst everyone's bubbles, but I think we're forgetting something here. I agree that G35+HVX footage should look stunning. It should also be incredibly hard to shoot for a number of reasons.

The HVX is a stop slower than the dvx, and (furthermore) 35mm adapters cut out about a stop or two of light. Since HD picks up more detail, grain will for sure be more noticeable in 35mm adapter footage so I expect it will be NECESSARY to shoot at f2.8 or faster due to grain, though recommended (due to light and grain) to shoot around f1.4 or f1.8.

Now, HD has much better resolution than DV and thus pulling focus is really critical. So not only will you need a follow focus, you'll need good lenses, a good monitor, and a lot of work/talent to pull off shots with any figure movement or camera movement.

Oh, and you'll need more lights to make up for the fact that you'll be shooting at about the equivalent of 50ISO or something, and lights are expensive, too.

With an HD camera and a 35mm adapter (assuming correct exposure), the results should be stunning. But people will soon realize that if they want their footage to LOOK like 35mm, they're going to have to SHOOT like 35mm and that means big lights, tons of set up, incredibly careful focusing, and a much slower shooting schedule.

Sure the camera and the media will be cheap, but all the other stuff you'll need for decent results (and the larger crew necessitated) won't be. Personally, I'm waiting for a 2/3'' HD camera that takes c-mount lenses--something targeted specifically towards replacing 16mm. It just seems like a faster workflow with fewer limitations and I hope someone will have the guts to market such a product.

Probably not, though, and I expect the HVX (particularly with the adapter) will be capable of producing mind-blowing images. It will just take a lot more work than with a dvx, for instance.

G35 + Reelstream Andromeda. That's a potent combination and another revolution in the works. I wonder how many people will skip DVCPro and go straight for uncompressed raw capture.

I was initially doubtful about it, but the quality is like shooting with my D70. Pretty tempting...

Is there something stopping this 'revolution' right now?

I don't remember hearing about anyone who made a great movie on DV but was turned down for distribution strictly by virtue of it being shot on DV.

Cameras may get better and cheaper, but good filmmaking is still just as hard.

Yep. But now people won't have any excuses for bad filmmaking. This just evens the playing field a little more.

I agree completely, just wanted to point out that this isn't exactly a 'magic bullet'*
Maybe instead of 'Complete Terrorist Takeover' the title should be something like:

HVX + G35 = NO MORE EXCUSES
It's a revolution against copouts and disclaimers!
Count me in.
:)

*not a reference to the AE plug in, which by the way is not a 'magic bullet' either.
