HVX, Audio Tracks, and FCP

I have 3 questions.

First some quick background. 99% of the time when I shoot with my HVX, I am recording with my shotgun mic. I have the shotgun record to tracks 1 and 2 and the onboard mic record to tracks 3 and 4.

#1 Do I have to record audio from the onboard mic? I never use that audio and it would be nice to save that storage space.

#2 If I do have to record the onboard mic audio, does it have to be captured to FCP? Once again, I never use it and would like to save the HD space.

#3 When I capture tracks 1 and 2 to FCP they are individual mono tracks (even though they might be exactly the same if I had the sound levels set the same). This means whenever I do any audio work (levels, effects, etc.) I have to do it to two tracks. Should I be using both tracks? If I only use 1 track, the audio is significantly lessened overall. I guess my question is, what is the best way to use the audio tracks with one mic and FCP?

Thanks a lot,

Chris

p.s. I purchased and watched Barry and David's DVD and while it was very helpful, I still have the specific questions about the HVX above.

#1 - No idea. Editor...not shooter. But when I get a hold of the camera I can look into it. Although by then others here would have answered you.

#2 - You can limit the tracks you import in the LOG AND TRANSFER interface...in the IMPORT SETTINGS...lower right hand window.

#3 - You can also...in this window...tell FCP to import as a stereo pair or mono. And if you import as mono accidentally, once you have the clip in the timeline, highlight both audio tracks and press OPT-L...that will make them a stereo pair.
