HVX and Metadata

I've noticed that FCP 7 has certain functions regading metadata....

What I'm trying to work out is... is it metadata that is entered at the time of import BY THE USER, or is it grabbing the metadata that the HVX produces itself?

My current bugbear with FCP is that it deletes the highly useful HVX produced metadata if you import.

It can grab a lot of the metadata that is uploaded into the camera now. AND use metadata you add later. New to FCP 7
