HVX- 720/60P in 23.97 timeline???

I am having difficulty trying to modify the speed of my timelapse shots (1F per 1sec) that were taken in the 720/60P mode in a 23.97 timeline.

Basically most of the project is being shot in the 720/24PN mode but i did a few timelapses with the 720/60P mode that I wanted to ramp up for a timelapse, but when I put it in the timeline, modified the speed and rendered it the clip goes well then stops about 3/4 of the way through.

Is there a specific modify speed % for this situation? Would I be better off trying to do the timelapse at 720/30P for this specific timeline?

anybody? thanks.

Frame Rate Convertor

Frame Rate Convertor

Craig,

You need the frame rate convertor. It can be downloaded from Panasonic's web site or take off of your Final Cut Pro 5.1 disc. After installing it'll show up in your Tools menu.

What the frame rate convertor does is take materials shot at a variable frame rate and covert them to 23.98 for you. Once you have it converted to that then you can cut it into your sequence and play around with all the speed settings you like and you should run smooth as butter.

However, based upon your statement of "1F per 1sec" I have to ask, did you shoot at a variable frame speed or did you shoot using interval shooting? To my understanding you can't shoot 1fps under either circumstance, so I'm a bit confused as to precisely what you did for your settings (either option would still fall under the 720p60 setting though). If you did interval shooting, then ignore the frame rate convertor stuff.

As for the optimal way to shoot the time lapse, it totally depends upon what you're shooting and the environmental settings around you. On our production we have employed both varied frame rates and interval shooting to achieve our time lapses. The DPs have basically worked out for themselves when it is better to employ one or the other.

cheers.

To confirm VaricamLife, you can not shoot one frame per second with the HVX-200, unless you're using an FS-100, which will shoot time lapes at any settig you can think of.

I'm not sure, but as of 5.1.2, I think the DVCPRO-HS Frame Rate Converter installs automatically. I'm not sure. Can anyone verify this?
