HVX 35mm Adapter Quest

Does anyone on this forum know when we will have an alternative to the Redrock M2 adapter? The Cinemek G35 has been in the work forever and I have not been able to find an alternative.

Does anyone know of another 35mm adapter that rivals the M2?
If such an adapter or Depth of Field Control device exists, please share with us. This is a crucial element to complete the look of the HVX and it should be a top priority for hardware developers.

I look forward to your comments / suggestions.

I am giving the Brevis35 a good look.

I prefer this design over the M2. They just got their new achromats and HVX tests are being done now. Hopefully they will post footage soon. Some of the other stuff I've seen is on par with what I've seen from the M2.

Thanks D, but I am looking for useful recommendations and advice from fellow HVX users on this post. If it was as easy as search and find then I wouldn't be asking.

Jester, thanks for the useful recommendation.

Prodigy, I am concerned about the M2 loss of light, size, 9Volt battery replacement issue, ect.

The Brevis35 looks great! I am going to look for test footage. Has anyone shot a film or commercial project with this lens system yet?

From what I've seen. I'm really leaning towards the brevis. Lighter, and it just screws on and you're ready to go. Rods are even optional. Internal recharchable battery. They are also developing a diffusion kit for it.

"We're adding the option of swapping in diffuser elements. There's one in developement that will have higher light loss, but different diffusion/bokeh properties. At f2.8/f4 and above, the current diffuser is a near exact film match, offers exceptional sharpness, and actually gains .5 stops in the adapter. For folks who want the extreme diffuse look of a fully opened F1.2 lens, and hard bokeh on specular highlights at f2, the swappable diffuser will give them that, at the expense of .5 to 1 stops of light loss.

So the adapter remains the same, but we're adding the ability to choose the look."

If you look at the M2 site and forum and then look at the brevis, it is a very disturbing "clone". Look at both forums, you'll swear they are the same. I find it kinda creepy. But I am always open to new adapters. I'll keep my eye on this brevis. Thanks for the heads up, I had never heard of the adapter before.

I also like the rod style mounting. I do not want the adapter and a telephoto lens just hanging off the front of my HVX. That is prob. 2 lbs all levering off the glass. I dont like that, especailly if someone or something would accidently push down on the lens......

<edited later:> I now see that you said rods are optional. That makes me feel better and I would suggest it to protect the stability and strength of your camera.
Is the Brevis mount only for cannon?! That is all the website told me when I went to buy! Hmmm, that won't do.

Oh man puuuhleeaasseee! For a moment I thought you were speaking of the product. Also he makes a lens support for the Brevis. But seeing that I have a Brevis and an HVX with a heavy ass Tonika 80-200 hanging off the front of my UV filter, i'm trying to figure out your point in this thread. He never said he did not like the Redrock, what isn't to like? I'd have one if it wasn't for the fact that you might have to wait for 2mos to get one. Image quality? The Brevis gg is lovely I have no complaints, but i'm also a person who won't judge a products quality based on clips posted on the web. I've not seen a bad clip from the micro35 from someone who knows how to use their camera and the adapter. The one adapter which is not useable is the Letus flip, while it shares a similiar gg stage to the Brevis, the motion is not quick enough to disperse the grain.

There are other mounts available. I think there's an error on the HD Package page thus only listing a canon mount.

Yeah I was just assuming that an adapter and a long lens would create a hanging weight on the tip of HVX lens (i am assuming it connects via a stepdownring), I will take your word for it that the unsupported apparatus will be strong enough to not have a support. I on the other hand do judge results from online clips/examples. I want to see the high end results, because whichever product I buy, I am confident in my abilities to achieve similar results. If the HVX footage with a Brevis comes out great there is a 90% chance you'll see some HVX brevis footage from me. ;)

Sorry richkuhr, bit blunt there. My apologies.

Once the Brevis tests on the HVX come in I'll be mighty interested. Until then I'll wait.

I'll post some as soon as my achromat arrives, that's been the only issue with the Brevis. I've been pleased with the footage in 480...but who wants to shoot 480i when they have an HVX???!!! But Dennis has taken care of that and my achro is on the way. We also can't forget the SG35pro, i've seen nothing but great looking footage from that as well. And another of my favorite adapters isn't even available for sale, but you can view the footage over at pixelloft.com by Nick Bartleet. There are a lot of great adapters but Redrock is definitely like the IPOD of the game, they are extra refined.

Ordered my M2 almost a month ago.. I can't wait... I hope it comes within the 6 week period..

There's something about getting a product that is tested, and proven to work well for a low cost, compared to getting a low cost product that you are unsure of..

The M2 is a professional looking, and professionally tested piece of equip.. with superb results!

Combine the M2 with the HVX, and someone who knows what they are doing, and ya got a good combo..

PENNY WISE . . . . POUND FOOLISH....

Don't know why you don't just go straight out and order the M2.
Batttery life? As long as you want. I use external 9 volt rechargable battery which straps to the side of the M2. lasts al day and then some.

Light loss? The m2 has been reviewed on numerous occassions now and all say the same. the M2 is virtually light loss free. Only light lost is through the Nikon or Canon lenses you use.

Size of the M2? Doesn't seem over big to me and built like a tank. Wouldn't like to drop it but it will probably survive without a dent.

Just My opinion.

P + S Technik Vs. M2

P + S Technik Vs. M2

Has anyone done a side by side comparison between the P + S Technik and the RedRock M2? Because honestly that would be what would sell me.

P+S $11k.

RedRock < 1k.

Hows that for comparison?
