HVX 200 Camera Settings TO After Effects!!

I have been having trouble modeling my camera (Panasonic HVX 200) in after effects "camera settings".

I have a tracking shot that requires the exact spesifications of the camrea to match with the one created in after effects. Problem is I have been having trouble doing the conversions.

The KEY important setting to note is that the camera is set at the widest possible zoom- 4.2mm.

After reviewing my camera's manual i have also found that the 35mm equivalent to 4.2mm is 32.5mm.

I need the HVX 200's after effects "camera settings":
"Film Size"
"Focal Length"
"Angle of View"
"Zoom"

For When the camera is set to the WIDEST zoom (1x)!

:dankk2:

..you already have all you need right there. since your basing things on a HVX focal length conversion to 35mm your widest zoom setting in 35mm terms from the HVX is 32.5mm as you stated the manual says.

so your "zoom" ..which is the same thing as "focal length" = 32.5mm

..and at that given 35mm equivelent setting your angle of view will be exactly the same as a 35mm camera set to 32.5mm assuming you dont use any anamorphic or other manipulative lense (or for an angle in terms of degree value check the HVX manual ..not sure its in there though), and your equivelent sensor size is of course 35mm. so you can just set your AE comp camera to a 32.5mm lense using a 35mm film size.

the only other thing you need to consider is if you are using the cameras DOF in the comp you will need to calculate distance to subject in order to effectively replicate the DOF effects from the composition cameras. of course using the HVX's focal distance readout in feet or meters will give you this or simply measuring the distance with tape would as well, although at 32.5mm pretty much everything is in focus anyway until the subject/focal plane gets very close to the lense (within 5 feet or so)..so not a huge thing to worry about pending your comp and you probably have no need to pay attention to it whatsoever for DOF purposes. :)

Does anyone know how to match the after effects camera PERFECTLY to the HVX 200 set at the widest angle of view??? (4.2mm or 32.5mm (35mm equivalent))??

Also as an important note.. the video comp is set at 1920 x 1080 px.

DOF information is not particularly important.

What is needed is to match the camera's optics!

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME!

There is no matching it perfectly unless you knew exactly how big the sensors are. Since they're 1/3" that means they're dimensions, in mm, would be roughly 4.8 x 3.6 mm. In searching around the web (Google) I found some people that say they use 4.6809 x 2.3660 mm for tracking. So, it's more about getting close than perfect since Panasonic doesn't advertise the exact physical size of the sensors.

That being said, as Neil already told you, if you use the 35mm equivalents you can get close. You just change "Measure Film Size" to "Horizontally" and units to mm, then enter 36 as your film size and 32.5 as your focal length and you'll get an angle of view of 57.96. If you use the aforementioned 1/3" sensor size width in mm, 4.8, and enter a 4.2 mm focal length you'll get an angle of view of 59.49, only a few degrees off from Panny's posted 35mm equivalents (assuming the HVX's sensor width is 4.8mm).

Angle of view is the only thing you need to match, the rest is only relevant to the angle of view and non-existent in the world of pixels anyways.
