HVR-Z7U Mic input settings

I am presently using the supplied camera mic on XLR1 and want to use a handheld for interviews on XLR2. How should I set these if I want to disable one and only use one OR the other at a time? I trying to eliminate loud music when interviewing so I thought of using a hand held while disabling the onboard mic. I really don't want to ever have both inputs on at the same time.
I,m looking for a quick way to switch inputs without much fuzz while on the shoot.
Any tips?

Turning the channel inputs on & off on location is kind of neither here-nor-there, unless an external mixer is summing the different mic sources together. Using one channel or the other is normally selected in post.
 
Thanks Rick. I hear what you are saying and that's good for the most part. I also ADR on location when possible. But it is on some occasions when getting a handheld on the subject gets the sound more direct in when noise is a problem. This is when I thought I could eliminate the boom on the camera and just get the direct voice of the hand held. For this I have to be able to quickly turn off the other input on this new camera of mine.
What do you think would be a solution?
