HVR Timelapse

Hey guys I have a Sony HVR-Z1U and I was just wondering if there is a way where I can get the equivalent of a time-lapse shot. Now I know it doesn't have the capacity to do it the way proper timelapse photography is done but I'm okay with a workaround. The shot is vital to my finished product!!

Appreciate any help I can be given

well, record 1 hour worth of footage (or whatever length you need time-lapsed) and then sped it up in post. That's the easiest way of doing a time lapse shot, then play with the shutter speed to get different light effects etc....

here is a 1 hour 30 minutes time lapse of me (the in black) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tX5KqjKQZ1M tearing down an old backyard house.

I don't know that camera, but if you can get a proper signal to a computer I'm sure there are readily available programs that do that. I think OnLocation might, but I'm not sure. Or whatever it's called now.

Then I think that your best bet is (unless you have a dslr and remote controller) to take the HVR, and film 45 minutes and then speed it up in post. This is how it would look http://vimeo.com/3218902 (take a look at second 0:30).

This is absolutely correct. OnLocation was Adobe's rebranding of DVRack and timelapse is completely built in. A total no brainer. Its also setup for doing stop motion animation amoungst other things.

Cool! What speed did you speed it up to?

I think it was around 10000x in premiere, I don't really know if it works the same way in other NLEs. But this is usually a trial and error process. With photos there is a formula to know exactly how long the time-lapse will be , I guess that you can also o the math with video, but I'm still trying to figure out a formula hahahaha....
