Hv20 and Vegas

Hi,

I'm used to SD editing and deinterlacing 50i footage in post to 25p. However, I now have the Canon HV20 which allows me to record in 25p. I therefore have to change my workflow but I'm a little unsure what settings to adopt in Sony Vegas.

1. For file properties, do I choose the HDV 1080-50i template or do I set a template up for 1080-25p by setting the field order to none. (I believe this only affects what the preview looks like in the edit so probably doesn't matter)

2. For conversion to SD DVD, I assume it is best to render as Mainconcept MPEG2 with DVD Arcitect PAL widescreen template but should I leave the field order as lower field first, to avoid deinterlacing, or set this to none. I assume leave as lower field first.

3. When rendering to wmv or any other computer based progressive output I assume Sony Vegas doesn't deinterlace the 25p edit (Would this require point 1 settings to be correct ?)

Thanks

1. You use the template designated for 1080/50i.
2. You leave it as is, and you just use the designated DVD/AC3 templates to export.
3. If you export as progressive, well, it will de-interlace, because that's what progressive means = no interlacing. :)

No, it wouldn't. Vegas and FCP work very differently in several regards, and this is one of them.

If you set the field order to None (progressive), you may avoid problems with making edit points between two fields which make up a full progressive frame. It's not likely to be an issue most of the time, but it's something worth at least a thought.
