HV-20 Mic recommendations?

We have a new HV-20 but starting to realize a shotgun mic is in order.

Plugged our Sennheiser MKE-300 with fresh battery into the HV-20 mic input last night... We couldn't get the MKE-300 to feed enough signal to clear the inherent noise floor of the camera.

The HV-20 external mic input gain was set to full.

Any suggestions beyond the Canon DM-50? They're out of stock for 2 to 3 weeks at B&H and we need it by this Friday.

Something with its own battery power (condensor) with oooomph, a mini mic jack (no xlr adaptor fussing) around 200 dollars or below?
