Hum Eliminator/DI Box Recommendation

I have to record what I expect will be some long audio conference calls. I want to use AC power on my recorder because I do not want the batteries to fail. Since the phone system uses AC power, this causes a ground loop problem that inserts noise into the recording.

I have a device that sits in between the phone jack and the phone -- it has a 1/8 audio out jack. So I need some kind of hum eliminator or direct box that goes in between that jack and the recorder. Whirlwind has a product called ISOPOD that converts a 1/8 stereo TRS to a balanced mono XLR. Craftswitch has a product coming out called AudioStix that looks like it does the same thing. I had not heard of either company before but the customer service was a lot better from Whirlwind so I might get that product.

Wondering if any of you have experience with either of those brands or can offer any other suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Craftswitch...

I think that you mean Switchcraft... :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) If you just want to go with a hum eliminator Whirlwind, Ebtech, Switchcraft and ART are all good brands.

You can use something like this to tap in directly into the phone handset:

or this:

There are lots of others to choose from.

What are you using as your audio recorder?

BTW, in office environments with lots of computers and other things emitting RF you may have no choice but to run on batteries or preferably a battery pack.

Try EBTech or Audiopile; some good choices of cool devices there that might fit your bill. You might want to look at the "Hum X."

Are you using a proper phone interface? JK Audio (not to be confused with JDK) makes some good ones that I have used.
