Huffyuv step by step?

Hi,

Lately I've been using both Vegas and Premiere for some projects and I need a practical lossless codec. Everywhere I've been reading that Huffyuv is very good. The thing is whenever I export a miscrosoft avi on premiere pro with it all that comes out is a black video. Can anyone give me a hand here?

well, I don't use premiere pro, but when you output to .avi, make sure you have the settings right.

Another thing is that your video drivers or codecs may be broken on your system, download "Codec Sniper" and run it, if you have and problems it will show up and you can remove it form your system. Then just re-install a fresh copy.

Just tried Codec Sniper and the codec is A OK. I also tried every single possible export setting combination without any success. Either it comes out like a black video or the scene comes multiplied by 3 in the video window (exemple: I shot a guys face and 3 faces show up in the exported video).

Ok, I just did the exact same thing on Vegas and I managed to see the new exported video on Vegas's timeline. BUT I cannot play it with any media player (vlc, media player classic, etc) because it either crashes the application or it displays a black video. Oh, and I imported it to premiere and could not play it there either (black video)...the plot thickens.

was this on the same PC? first try your software on another machine, it shouldn't be a problem, most likely your software has some video driver conflict somewhere.

The only other thing might be the Video drivers, may sure you have an uptodate video driver and there is no hardware conflict, worth a try.

My advice would be in the most extreme case you may need to re-install your OS.

Food for thought here, you may wish to make sure you dont have an inverted Alpha Channel. I have had the same issue many a time only to find out Premiere or Avid were displayng the Alpha Channel and not the Video adjacent to it. I wish I could put this in more intelligent terms, but i would be willing to bet, if you toy with the Alpha Channel settings of the clip you are importing, this will cure your issue right up.

If there is someone on the forum reading this that is competent in this area, dont be afraid to jump in and explain this properly.
