HPX250: HPX250 Price

I am looking to buy a HPX250 but can't figure out the pricing discrepancy. Places like B&H and Texas Media Systems are charging $4800 however there are numerous places charging around $3700. I understand paying a little more for good service but paying more than $1000 extra seems a little ridiculous. Am I missing something?

Look up the super-cheap online stores, that will give you the answer. They are usually not authorized resellers and are selling gray-market products for which warranty service may not be available. ResellerRatings will also be eye-opening.

I checked out ResellerRatings and Ryther has a 7.7 out of 10 and 4 out of 5 stars, dosen't seem too bad. 42nd Street has a higher score than B&H. Does this mean that they are as good or better than B&H? As far as "gray-market" on B&H's own website they talk about how "Grey markey" products are just as good as products with US warranty. I guess my question is, Is a manufacturer's warranty worth $1100.00?
 
Only if something goes wrong and you need a repair. I am not sure there are too many places to get an HPX250 repaired. Panasonic has extended the warranty on the units and it may be difficult registering a grey market product. I have had no problem with B&H. It is hard when the prices play with your head and your wallet. I would urge caution. Clearly the price points may change with push for 4K, and perhaps that is leading to some lowering of the price, however, you may also be getting something not quite the solution you want. Not an easy call.
 
Is there a battery with the camera? A lot of gray market sellers only sell the camera, and do not include a battery, P2card,etc. There are rebates for the HPX250 from sellers like B&H. Also, a gray market camera won't come with the extended 5 year warranty from Panasonic.

I bought a grey market device once, and never agian. Its not worth it to me, this is a high end camera and at some point you will most likey send it in. I buy from my local dealer (200 miles away), went in and used it then after afew hours or trying it got it. I do this will all big ticket items, saving a few bucks (on a US Version device) in the long run from a discount online store isnt worth it to me anymore. I buy from the same dealer each time and they know me and if I have an issue they help me out. Plus they match the price the online stores charge when I buy locally.

So is a no warranty camera better than a camera with a warranty is your real question to save $1100, if that were mine I would just buy a used camera then as there would be no warranty. You would also get more of the extra items you would need, that would be the best for the price. Plus with many online sales you can get a warranty like with ebay.

I deal with B&H, Adorama, Amazon, New Egg, Tiger Direct, Full Compass and Texas Media Systems. Back in 2000 I bought from Video-Direct and the experience was fine.

I looked at some of those other cheap sites before and if you read enough reviews, you can see what's going on.
It's not worth it to me.
 
If you can buy local from a physical storefront, you'll be happy when something goes wrong. My HPX needs to go in for some warranty work now, and I'm glad I don't have to ship it and wait.
 
Buy mine. it's been barely used, originally bought from Texas Mesdia Systems - comes with three batteries, Chrosziel baseplate and five 16GB P2 cards - good price, checik the marketplace
