HPX170 and FCP2, what preset to capture?

I Captured and Transferred my 720PN HPX170 footage using the preset "DVC PRO HD 720p24".
Is that correct? Should my sequence preset also be the same? It's just weird because
when I checked my capture AND sequence presets after I captured and transferred, they were set to DVC PRO HD 720p30, so I changed them in the Audio/Video settings. However, when I actually rightclick on my sequence it is set to 720p24, not 720p30, which is good, because my footage is 24PN, not 30PN.

But is this not correct? I think I should have captured using the HDV Preset, and and HDV timeline, and I erased my P2 card. The footage is on my HD, but after it was captured and transfered, so is it stuck in the DVC PRO format then? Am I hooped and cant have 1280x720 footage anymore?

I would also like some reassurance with this.

I am shooting on 720pn24p with a HPX171 and am confused if pulldown is necessary or if it is only the 1080 24pa where this matters.

In the few tests I've done with my camera I have simply captured the footage in FCP using the DVC PRO HD 720p24 Easy Setup and the footage looks fine. Is this the correct workflow or should the footage be altered at some point?

And when exporting h.264 do I need to check "Deinterlace source video"?

I see so many posts about things that relate to this subject, but when searching I still don't get a clear idea of what I need to do with all the different advice.

I searched pixel aspect and just got a bunch about pixel aspect ratio, which doesn't explain it.

Is it just that the actual footage is 960 x 720 and when I export my timeline, I stretch it to 1280 x 720?

I thought that pixel shifting happens in camera, so that it records like this, but then stretches it to 1280 x 720 before I ever even see the footage?

pixel shifting does happen in camera, but the aspect is still compress down. when u output as full 1280x720p the pixels expand back out and it's fine. you should just be using your log and transfer, ur "capture" settings don't effect l&t, the presets are in there, capture settings is if u have a I/O device and rs422 capture from tape. this is all digital tapeless, all it does is transcode from MXF to quicktime, it's still dvcpro hd. all u have to do is click a clip, drag it to the timeline and it will ask u if u want to match ur timeline to the clip settings, click yes, ur ready to cut. when u export as 1280x720 it will look good

Thanks very much for the info guys!

So how does this effect how you export? If I want to export using quicktime conversion, do I want to use compressor native (960 x 720). Will that then display as 1280 x 720? Or do I want to select HD 1280 x 720? What would the difference be?

And a final question I had asked earlier, what will checking "deinterlace source video" do in this case? Is it necessary?

Thanks again and sorry for the rookie questions. I'm still learning!
